I'd agree with all of that. The only hope I have that we can recruit better is Conor's involvement in the process, I can't see him being hung out to dry by the type of players that we wasted money on in January for our so called promotion push.
I was thinking more long term. They are way ahead of us in terms of ambition - and have been for several seasons. It's a short career: players want to play for Clubs they can see are trying to progress. We've not even finished our freefall yet.
Well not only Wycombe, Bradford City offered Humphrys a better deal too. From the players perspective you can't blame them from moving sideways for more money. Be madness not to.
It must be about more than money. Leeds and Newcastle struggle to recruit players because they aren't fashionable enough. There's no way Wycombe are more fashionable than Barnsley. If you asked 10 people if they'd rather play for Wycombe or Barnsley. I bet 7/10 would say Barnsley and the other three wouldn't know anything about football.
If you've been following the Reds for a long time Stephen, it is extraordinary how many Clubs who we considered 'inferior' (without getting all Wednesday about it) have surpassed us: Bournemouth, Brentford. Brighton (who were once dead) Fulham, Hull Luton (who were even deader than Brighton!), Millwall, Oxford, Plymouth etc... I could go on. For a Club that has spent more seasons in the 'Championship' than any other team in English football history, it's quite a fall from grace. The fortunes of football teams always ebb and flow and I'm sure at some point we will 'ebb' back up but at the moment we're still in a state of 'flow' and I'm not quite sure how much lower that will take us.
But I bet if you showed 10 people the 2 businesses BFC & WWFC and the projects and money behind those it would be a different answer.
Notwithstanding transfer fee, you would have thought for Luca to agree personal terms it would need a decent offer, given that Wycombe is the most boring town on Earth, a long way from home and most importantly next summer he'll be a free agent and able to negotiate with new teams from a position of strength where they don't need to be paying a transfer fee....
Not obvious though is it? Nor is it obvious Bradford offered more. If it’s fact and we know what he was offered then fair enough but there are other reasons to move as an example perhaps Conor told him his expectations and he didn’t want it, perhaps he felt let down by the club and no amount of money would have kept him, perhaps he had personal reasons for picking by Bradford.
