The FIFA Club World Cup is utter w.ank - an overfed, unwanted, bloated parasite clinging to the dying host of modern football.

Nobody cares. Players don’t want it, fans don’t ask for it, clubs resent it—and yet FIFA’s expanded it to 32 teams? It goes on forever!

It’s not about competition. It’s about revenue. A soulless cash-grab disguised as “global growth,” flogging tired players through another needless tournament while domestic leagues buckle under the strain.

The Champions League* already is the world championship. This is just noise, plastic prestige with an air-conditioned VIP tent.

Scrap it. Football doesn’t need more fixtures. It needs its soul back.

    * I know, European only, but you get my drift.

Agree but they won’t - it said on the news the other day Chelsea had earned £61million from it - and that’s all they care about

Spurs won the Europa League and Liverpool are champions. Say no more.

I just hope Thomas Frank gets his players on time and Spurs win the Super Cup.

How is it funded though....they were virtually giving tickets away for most of the games.

The big clubs pay into it.

Some of the big clubs must have lost a real wedge if Chelsea took out £60m though...that doesn't sound sustainable to me.

But the fans don’t need it, weekends are dull in June and July but we all need it. We already have World and European Cups every other year, for crying out loud. Make us all pause for breath and take a break.

It’s making already big clubs bigger and smaller clubs smaller. Addicted football fans are paying for this out of fixated desperation in the absence of anything else. The divide just gets bigger.

We already have Euros and World Cups, give us at least some break so we can become bored once again and learn how to live outside of the prefabricated world of elite football.

    Bring back jumpers for goalposts.

I’ve not watched any of it live. All I’ve seen are a few clips of goals on social media.

I think I just needed a bit of a break from football with how our season finished. I’ve not even took much notice of our friendlies yet. There were names I didn’t recognise in the squad today & I couldn’t be bothered to google them.

I’ll probably get my enthusiasm back by the time our league season starts but the only two matches I’ve watched since the champions league final were the under 21’s in the semi & the final.

DAZN bought TV rights for 1 billion dollars - at exactly the same time as Saudi bought a huge stake at DAZN.

Stuff like this should be promoted to ultimately end up with breakaway leagues. Only then will we get rid of the manufactured, turgid **** football and come back to reality. I’m all for these clubs ******* off somewhere else, it stops their boreathon being imposed on us.

I've just come back from a lovely afternoon in an Irish pub, with my girlfriend (a friend who is a girl, nothing more). She is more sports-mad than I am. We watch many different sports together, of both genders. We watched the England vs. France Euro game (with England vs. Argentina rugby on another screen), so I totally disagree with your comment on Women's soccer. However, this Club World Cup competition is a joke; no prestige and all about money,

    Where have you heard that?
Seems the opposite to me, the clubs are only taking it seriously as they can earn a load of money

Irony alert!!! It is nice to see that a summer tournament has been set up to help the clubs that financially struggle!
