Just watching Norrie getting outclassed. Is it any wonder we adopt people from different nationalities to try and rally the everyday punter into following Tennis? It's a game for toffs, pseudo toffs and snobs.
The empty seats are due to a techy cockup...apparently they operate a system whereby when someone leaves, the seat immediately goes back on sale at the turnstile...unfortunately it has had problems.
" Is it any wonder we adopt people from different nationalities " Tbf Norrie himself is one of those...born in South Africa, brought up in New Zealand.
True. Read up on him and feel rather silly. It was his inept w@nkness that made me think he was British.
Yes but all the names mentioned were using the old wooden racquets, except Cash maybe. How much power would be lost by the modern players using the older racquets.
With that outlook there's no wonder we can't attract more players. Definitely not a game for toffs, snobs etc.
Tbf, he’s come up against real class today. I’ve enjoyed watching him, but he was outclassed, Alligator Alcatraz was comfortably too good.
Even though he's an Aussie lol, I loved seeing Pat Cash celebrate winning, and climbing up into the fans, when he won it in '87. Had that sort of thing ever been done before, on the Centre court ?.
So Emma ehh, Miss Raducanu. The media really made a lot out of her when she first came onto the scene, as a British player, a few years ago. Do we all think she has lived up to the 'hype' ?.
Harsh. I used to play with my mates as a teenager, and for many years afterwards, usually at Carlton Council Courts. There wasn't a toff, pseudo toff or snob amongst us.
Hey guys, who really was a fan of "bonking Boris" lol, as the press called him at the time, in the mid 80s. I thought he/Becker was ace at the time, but I sort of got fed up with him, rather quickly!.
It was an incredible achievement what she did at the us open in 2021, coming through qualification and eventually winning the title , that's the one and only title she's won. She's had a lot of injuries and numerous coach changes since then. I'm surprised she hasn't added another title to her us open victory
Hey speaking of Cash, what do we think about Aussies ehh in sport ?. Yeah they are annoyingly good aren't they, and some of them are even likeable, err maybe lol.
I reckon her main issue has been chopping and changing her coaches. For whatever reason I've no idea, but it's not healthy. Most players these days suffer a great deal more injuries than, say, players 15 years or so ago due to the heightened intensity. Maybe Radacanu has had to endure so many differing approaches to her training regimen has caused more injuries than normal?
It's not necessarily as simple as that, the reason fewer players use serve and volley is because the game is actually slower than it used to be, baseline tennis is now the norm, yes the rackets can provide more power, more often, but back in the day more tennis was played on grass which is miles faster than the hard courts they play on today, even Wimbledon a few years ago began laying grass courts that were designed to be slower than the very fast Courts that the groundsmen laid traditionally.
