Saturday 12th of July would have been a great day to play Rangers. All catholics advised to stay at home. And your Irish bars closed for the day.
Can’t recall either reading or hearing of any major problems when they played at Hillsbro’’ in the not too distant past?
Maybe they don't go to the friendlies, in which case it would have been nice for a home fixture, but I think it was stated that after the boxing they were relaying the pitch? Hence no home fixtures pre-season.
I'm really not sure what is the point of such a game. I want to see our (for now) players get minutes and game time, with trialists introduced in limited number. Two teams of eight trialists and three U21s seems a waste of time.
I've just got back from the game and i kind of agree. I'm not really sure what we were trying to do; the sheer number of trialists in both the first and second half teams meant there was no real pattern of play, and particularly in the second half we didnt really provide worthwhile opposition to Buxton (a fair score line would have been 7 or 8-1); to me it would have made more sense to look at trialists in behind closed doors games and/or to have played this sort of team against Frickley as planned. As it transpires it feels like we've messed Frickley about, messed Buxton about, messed the first team players about trailing them all that way (none of them watched the second half, they only bothered watching the first then went indoors and didnt bother coming back) and messed some of the supporters about travelling all that way to watch a load of no hoper triallists. I'm not really sure what we're playing at.
I’ve had a bit of a break from football but the squads a very decent size. I know we’ve a few out like Jalo, Gent & Phillips but are we really that short of players? Are things that bad that the likes of Shepherd, Barrett, Bland etc can’t do 45 minutes tonight when they’ve travelled anyway? I was pretty doom & gloom after seeing the way we set up in the last 10 games but we aren’t having a good transfer window & all these players not getting a proper pre-season suggests major trouble ahead.
Are there no opportunities for local journos to ask these questions, instead of us being fed platitudes from the clubs own man. Pointless.
You’d hope at this point we’d be building some momentum and confidence after some professional and composed wins against lower league opposition. Where we actually are is coming off the back of a draw and a defeat, observing that the form at the end of last season was also less than inspiring, and wondering when and if we’ll turn the corner.
Even Doug O’Kane doesn’t question the club as too reliant on getting information from them. This making an effort to reconnect with the fanbase this summer doesn’t feel any different to before tbh. im sure it won’t be long till we are blaming it all on the club World Cup and prem teams not knowing their squads yet and then it will be us picking up players late again on frees that have had no pre season and then writing off the first month of the season. Doesn’t matter who’s in charge all the same issues seem to remain.
Head coach may change regularly, but the faces above are still the same, hence the same issues remain. Mladen and Neerav just don't seem very competent in their roles.
I’ve given up on the club at moment in time this incompetence writings been on the wall for too long now - it’s all lip service when you are making the same mistakes into the third season following Duff leaving.
Only pre season but already it feels like a club going nowhere and it’s interesting to see the bookies feel the same about us with next seasons odds.
What was that about then? Wasn't billed as a kids game so we went along to Buxton. Waste of time. Lovely evening to be in the Peaks though, so not a total loss. Why was this not billed as a Barnsley XI? Waste of everyone's time and money.
