It was part of the preseason schedule for the first team. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2025/july/02/ticket-news---buxton-fc-vs-reds/ An XI were supposed to be going to Frickley on the same night. They cancelled the Frickley game and withdrew all the first team squad from the Buxton fixture. It appears this was done because they've arranged a behind closed doors game at the weekend. There's a lot of people who have been messed about there, none more so than supporters who were sold a match ticket for what turned out to be trialists for the youth set up.
Yeah that's w.nk, but without the context of Saturday's game it's hard to judge. If we've managed to secure a big side behind closed doors you can see why the 'main' XI would be rested for that. Either way it's ***** for the local clubs who could do with the cash.
If the pre season were meticulously planned then each of the pre season games would be specifically timed to gauge player progression and the likely starting 11. I agree results are pretty meaningless but the way the fixtures have changed, all driven by BFC and not the opposition, smacks of last minute panic. It would appear our approach to the start of the season will be mirrored in our transfer policy. Conor spoke well at his appointment but saying we are meticulously planning and doing it are two different things. Spectemur Agendo
It does. Last night we took the pee out of Buxton and our travelling fans by playing a squad full of trialists instead of getting some much needed minutes in to the legs of our first team squad.
Agree it's very unfair on Buxton, but I'm assuming that it's because the first team has a bigger fixture coming up, as others on here have mentioned.
That's days away. Our players aren't fit enough. They shouldn't be having their feet up when we've offered Buxton a first team friendly.
This idea that they can’t do 45 minutes each 4 days before a bigger game (assuming it’s on Saturday) is ridiculous.
Spot on, I'd love to know what Conors true thoughts are at the moment and if he's finding it tougher than expected. .
Maybe if Man City fancy a game next Tuesday we'll cancel the Rangers game. We're like the Josh Koroma of pre season friendlies
