    To change the mood a little.

    I'm on the beach, staring at Lanzarote. It looks close. Swimmable (though not for Andy Doggy Paddle Mac). Can see Playa Blanca really clearly so I took a guess at 3 miles (ferry takes 30 mins).
    Turned to Google for accuracy purposes; 7 nautical miles / 8 miles).
    Then googled how far the horizon at sea is. 4.7 miles for a 6 ft tall person.
    Well this horizon I can see, from sunbed height, is way beyond Lanzarote. So from that, I deduce:

    It's time for a pint.

    I’ve often looked across from Tenerife to La Gomera & concluded that I’d be able to swim it but I think I’m being a bit delusional. It’s probably way further than it looks.

    Edit - Just checked & it’s 29 miles. I’ve never swam more than 2. I would definitely die.
