    Has to be garlic.

Underpins loads of awesome dishes including most curry and pasta sauces.

i think the world would be a much sadder place without garlic and it’s pretty difficult to replace whereas you can improvise to replace most other vegetables

m’lord I submit the case for the humble garlic as the greatest vegetable.

They are botanically a fruit, but considered - culinary - vegetables. According to everything I’ve checked on the World Wide Web.

    Regardless, they’re f*****g ace.

This thread sums up the state of our football club to a tee. When we we ought to be debating the player ins and outs and our prospects for the upcoming season, here we all are discussing vegetables.:(

It turns out I am addicted to daikon, long before I even knew what it was called. It's the picked white củ cải cà rốt chua stuff in a bánh mì. That goes way too well with roast pork.

Odd to think rhubarb is a veg not a fruit unbeatable in a pie with custard.

As Helen says. End of. Potato. Most versatile veg.
    Chips
    Mash
    Roast
    Baked/Jacket
    Scallops
    Wedges
    crisps
    Boiled
    Bombay
Not mentioning all the other variations.

How many of us. If having a typical British dinner. don't include the humble potato, in one form or another.
    Thank you sir Fancis Drake.:)

I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned leeks yet.

Delicious cooked down til they are sticky and sweet.

If we're talking veg/soup, I make a wicked sweet potato and roast pepper, bit of chilli in it too. Tis delightful.
