Why would the French care that people are offering to take them off their shores? It’s none of their business where they then take them to. It’s not illegal to take paying customers on a boat ride.

I’m sure those wanting the French to intervene wouldn’t be fighting for our taxpayers’ money to be spent on stopping people offering to take refugees to Germany (for example). In fact they’d probably be happy for money to be spent advertising their services.

    Could always create legal routes.

Bit crazy like, treating desperate people as human beings for a change.

Be much easier to make any sale of such a boat have to be mandatory registered, that way it could be traced back.

That’s the thing though isn’t it, they have sought refuge for some time.
Boats, trucks, trains etc the method changes but the need doesn’t.
Legal routes do exist but some choose not to use that I would for imagine for numerous reasons.
IMO it’s not a problem Britain can solve on its own it needs joined up thinking across Europe

There really aren’t many legal routes at all anymore, herein lies the problem. I’m not sure if the Afghan one is still operating, I think there was Hong Kong and I think there’s one with Ukraine. But if you’re being persecuted and your.life is at risk anywhere else, the UK isn’t interested.

And as has been put before, leaving the arc of the EU has made things much worse and much more difficult.

And today we saw the racist grifter pretending isolationism is in our best interest.

Ironic when he tries to grift his wares in the Yooo Ess of A so frequently rather than visiting his constituency. If he even knows where it is.

By the way, when I read one in one out, I thought it related to Reform MP’s.

From what's been done today, If we assume last year's numbers are the same this year...1 in 17 would be returned to France with this deal.

I just don’t understand why we are supposedly paying the French to do nothing to stop these boats!
It’s not rocket science just start sinking the boats before they leave the shallows , arrest the smugglers and punish them.
It would be good then if we could sort a system where we could sort the genuine cases from the scammers.
Fact is our infrastructure just can’t with the population we have at the moment, schools are full to bursting, the NHS ( hospitals and doctors and dentists ) can’t cope.Certainly up here it’s hard enough to get a telephone appointment with a doctor, let alone face to face, and if you want to see a particular doctor you need to know about six weeks before you get poorly to get an appointment.

This is also a trial. One in which I would have thought the EU would be concerned as it's a deal between UK and France meaning these individuals could be sent to any Schengen areas...

There’s plenty of doctors, the problem is that funding for GP surgeries was explicitly ring fenced by the last government to exclude GPs. It can only be used for hiring nurse practitioners or PAs but not doctors. That’s the problem, not asylum seekers. There’s a really weird problem where we have doctors desperately seeking jobs and people desperately seeking doctors but it not matching up and people putting two and two together and getting ‘sink the boats’ when the answer is far more mundane than that and is related to funding and budget allocations.

I don't see how that's a compelling argument against immigration. If anything that's an argument for more foreign aid.

If you don't like what's happening now, get ready for a future where most of Africa is uninhabitable due to climate change.
