None, as apart from a brief flirtation when in admin, we haven't been in that position since TM has been watching us. I'm older and can remember when we were. We signed a young Trevor Aylott who'd made 30 appearances for Chelsea in the top flight, 28 year old Scottish international Ronnie Glavin who'd outscored Kenny Dalglish at Celtic and had more than 100 career goals to his name, and the upcoming Derrick Parker, who despite being only 23, already had half a century of goals.
Emphasises how much the game has changed since then. We’d have absolutely no chance now of signing someone like Aylott or Glavin with their backgrounds. Probably still have a chance of a Parker but even that would be difficult.
It wasn't the stature of the players we signed previously that I took umbrage with, more the exaggeration (again) that people are getting overexcited by the players we're linked with, because they're not. If anything, it's quite the opposite. We're not in a position to be linked with former England internationals and players with half a dozen seasons in the top flight under their belt. Though, McGoldrick does have 150 career goals, some in the Premier League and a dozen international caps. It's as close as we're going to get at the minute.
If we did it certainly wouldn’t,t be for 60 grand which is what we paid for Parker one of the best strikers I saw play for Barnsley.
To be fair, nobody expected the team DW built to getting promotion to the PL. A goal scorer who can change 0-0 's to 1-0's and 0-1' s into 1-1's can make a world of difference ie. SJH; hopefully McGoldrick has a similar effect
