Mael's issue is he's not fast enough or competent enough to hold down the right hand side spot of a back three. Given that O'Keeffe can't defend either it opened up that entire right hand side. Hopefully with a decent CB inside him and no liability outside of him he'll have the structure to hold his position and do what he can do fairly well, carry the ball forward. I'd use O'Keeffe purely as a right midfield/winger. In a perfect world I'd get rid of both and bring in a proper RB, but I don't think we're in a position to get them off the books.
If Conor could teach him positioning discipline I’d like to see him have a go in the midfield just in front of the back 4.
Even this morning they were still speculating they were playing Leeds or Weds, must be such a disappointment for them.
I agree Some thread previously I also stated he should be released or moved into midfield, he hasn't the pace for full back, he can take the ball forward, often dribbles and lays it off successfully and has excellent vision in my opinion, but unfortunately his lack of pace causes him more trouble than what it's worth He's a good lad off the pitch and always gives 100 °/°
My reading of his ‘positional discipline’ is that the last two Head Coaches encouraged him to carry the ball from midfield (same with Earl). Possibly because we didn’t possess a ball-carrying midfielder? But when either of them inevitably lose the ball it’s up to teammates to cover. I’m convinced, and it’s only my opinion, that our defensive frailties were as much to do with midfield as defence. Hopefully things will change
Always thought that about MDG.. looks good and comfortable with the ball.. just never a center half Like to see him given a go Infront of the back four
