Sheron was absolute quality. He didn't score as many goals as we'd have liked. But I couldn't fault his effort.
I'm not exactly sure what SD is asking. But I've had many conversations over the years with Barry Murphy and Bruce Dyer on matters involving our branch and bumping into one another. At other events. Games etc. Allus willing to have a quick chat.
As I say should have scored more, Effort I couldn't fault. He was imo by far the most skilful player 2000/01 onwards. Up to leaving.
I get the skilful claim. Personally, I don't think he was as skilful as many suggest, but I understand it. But Mike Sheron is not a player I associate with maximum effort. The very opposite in fact.
Paul Reid … I got to know him quite well when fixing him up with accommodation in Wakefield. He told me some stuff about Davey… not complimentary
Les had the seat in front of me in ESL and we regularly chatted. . Smashing chap. But I had known Eric Winstanley longer from a personal point of view thats why I picked him
He wasn’t very good at communicating with the players so wasn’t popular ( tactful answer) Paul’s main gripe is how Davey all of a sudden stopped picking him and gave no explanation. He was eventually very happy when the club paid him off as it was more than expected
He was a good captain him. I remember Ritchie and Rick Holden talking about Davey being a weapon too.
Another vote from me. Like you, I find it hard to believe that anybody who watched us regularly in his time at Oakwell could think of anyone else.
Not predictable at all, as imo It goes without saying lil to anyone that saw him play . I've tried naming the best players through different eras of watching em. Pretty sure I've left a few out in certain eras that would change my mind. But here goes. (It doesn't mean I'd name my top XI from em.) Mid 60s-early 70s Winnie. Followed by. Ali Miller Macca Glavin Paul Futcher (Big mention for Currie ) Redders Higgy Dyer Gorre/Nards when he wanted to play. McPhail Howard Hammill Andy Gray Fozzie Conor/Return of Hammill Pinnock/Mowatt Helik Connel/Russell. DKD Chilling out whilst away looking through that lot lol.
For those old enough to remember Ronnie, in my mind he was incomparable. I caveat that with I never saw Eric or Tommy T.
Gerry Taggart, only one i've ever had a social drink with, Queens Hotel, back in the day while playing, an retired, Wortley Mens Club.
Good choices but you forgot about Bobby Doyle and Anton Otulokowski mate, not to mention Kenny Brown ha !
Bobby and Millar difficult choice mate. I just seem to remember Ali beating his man and turning back round and do it again sometimes twice lol. (As we allus used to say). But in reality those mazy runs were brilliant. A natural born entertainer. Should have been playing at an higher level. Anton great shout. And tbf to Kenny he won hearts over when he got the player of the year. From being the boo boy year b4. Danny Wilson did the same.
