Why is there a thread about bit coin. Genuine question, been pressured to buy them from sons advice. Never bought in, left my money in cash ISA . Not greatest return but low risk.
When Bitcoin spikes, people talk about it. Which is exactly the wrong time to buy. It's a very, very risky investment. But with great risk, can come great rewards. Depends on your appetite for risk
Its an insecure, very environmentally-unfriendly and popular with criminals, Ponzi scheme. One day it'll crash, but by God do I wish I'd done some mining 15 years ago when I first heard of it...

All our savings are in Premium Bonds. Our average win is about £50 a month. Slightly less exciting than Bitcoin I suppose....
My cryptocurrency story. I bought 1 bitcoin for $700 then sold it a week later for $693. [Credits roll]
The search continues. As of February 2025, the lost 8000 Bitcoin had a value of over £600m. He's even proposed buying the landfill site where it's buried, and offered 30% of his lost fortune to the council and residents of Newport if it is located. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_buried_in_Newport_landfill
Very impressive. I jumped on XRP 9 months ago after a tip, wish I'd jumped on it even earlier, same with Bitcoin. The only other crypto l own is Solana that I dip in and out with - short buys and sales. Made a 20% profit on all three at the moment, XRP doing the best but it's a very volatile market. Share wise l was very lucky to have Rolls Royce shares in my portfolio that l had forgot about, sold them last year for a 4x profit and they have doubled since then - but the missus wanted a media wall so they paid for that. Interesting with the metals, about 5 years ago after reading about the guy with bought his son a bottle of Macallan Whiskey every birthday and gifted the lot to him on his 18th, it was then worth around 38k..l thought about buying the kids a 1g gold bar every birthday, at the time they were around £50-£60, they are now just over £100. Have l ******** bought them any, l blamed the missus, she always wants to do ten months of research and misses the boat.
I dabble on Etoro and Revolut and my luck varies day by day. What I do find is that when I buy the price goes down and when I sell the price goes up. This means I haven't got a clue what's going on or what I'm doing. However I'm happy to make small profits of 10 or 20 quid or dollars. Repeat that several times and it makes your day. But then I go and spoil it all by doing something stupid like losing some or most of it in the next move. Mugs game, but I quite enjoy my little dabblings.
