    That's the fault of the justice system. Punishments need to be proper punishments, not slaps on the wrist. I think these two should have got at least ten years each. Good lesson to them and other mindless idiots who think it's funny to destroy things.

    It's more than that. It was an iconic site for people around the world, whether they had visited it or not. It wasn't just any old street corner tree that you see all over the country. The councils do enough vandalism to them as it is. It was a special place - still is, but made less so by the action of these morons.

    Its gratifying to think that their sentence includes no discount for a guilty plea, given that they were stupid enough to plead not guilty and force the cost of a trial, even though they were so bang to rights that they may as well have had a tattoo saying "it was me".

    Doesn't feel like society will be missing out much with these two taking a few years out of it, to be honest. Hopefully they can make the best of their time inside and grow up a bit.
