Where on earth did they get all those clips of him scoring goals from? Are they AI-generated or something? I can only remember about two of them!
After a disastrous loan spell it's possibly the worst signing the club has ever made to give watters a permanent deal
His stats must surely be far superior to Cosgrove's? And at least Watters looked like a footballer most of the time. I don't think I would have looked any more out of place on a professional football field than Cosgrove. And I'm in my 40's, with a penchant for craft ales and cheese.
Difference is that Cosgrove was signed on stats and spreadsheet crap alone. We essentially gave watters a 19 match trial and still signed him despite everyone seeing just how bad he was. Just because he was marginally better than Cosgrove isn't exactly a glowing endorsement. It's like putting me in the 4x100m relay for great Britain just because I'm faster than a man with no legs
Funnily enough I was thinking of him when I wrote my post. Probably one of our best loan to permanent signings we've ever made in theory and then the biggest disappointment
I think the writing was on the wall when Max made his debut. Red card for a headbutt. Daft. Redeemed himself with a goal against Wage Slave Wednesday, but we should've looked elsewhere in the Summer
Quite a lot of them are from when he played for Crawley, 4 years ago. A couple in there from when he played for MK Dons too.
Ditto Brian McCord. I've listened to an in-depth interview with Lummy, and he fully admits he pissed his time at Barnsley up the wall, and regrets how he let the fans down. I expected him to come across as a bit of a plank, but he speaks very well and is refreshingly honest.
Great bloke. He was a radio pundit at Oakwell when we played Carlisle a few years ago. Arranged to do a little interview with him for a future piece. Really honest about his time here. Biggest regret of his life. I regularly saw him and Alex Neil out in town on the ale. I was a student so I had an excuse!
I don't think signing Max Watters was a terrible idea though, after the Duff Wembley season. What were our other options that summer, maybe Slobodan Tedic, whose name was also mentioned. I think Max had a better loan spell than Tedic, although that's not saying much. And seeing as he'd been with us on loan, I hoped he would sort of hit the ground running, instead of needing time to settle etc. But, I admit things haven't worked out well at all, and surely Max himself will admit to some or maybe most of the blame.
