I’ve just noted Supertyke thinks Max Watters is the club’s worst ever signing. Who do you reckon deserves that dishonour?
El Haimour. Obv Mido, Frimpong and Burton are the crowd pleasers, but old Mounir still gives me nightmares. Robins saw straightaway he was a waste of a shirt, especially after he emaciated himself with Ramadan. He was 5 stone wet through even before, then had to have 6 weeks off to get back to fitness. Crazy
Hristov. Worst signing ever should be based on how much they cost, how much they earned and how much they did when with us. With his fee, couple of years of wages and lack of goals for games played I don't think that he's got an equal.
I think it depends on wage they took so it’s hard to determine. if Oulare was earning what he was reported to have been earning, and how signings like this out the club backwards then he would be up there as would Malik Wilks that transfer window possibly put the club back 10/15 years and we still have not recovered
Max watters would be up there we reportedly paid 400k and a 3 year deal on half decent wages so will have cost us well over a million for nothing really. Cosgrove also very poor signing. Oulare and iseka for me though both on big wages absolute waste of time. Conman signings.
There’s a very good case for Watters, to be honest. We’ve signed loads of players who turn out to be rubbish, but in Watters’ case we’d just had a year of seeing how rubbish and we still bought him Others worthy of mention: Dave Regis, because we swapped a decent striker for a rubbish one. Incidentally, crazy to think his famous miss was in our most famous promotion season. The two Belgians, crooked Conway’s legacy. That fat, old keeper that used to go on holiday with Flicker, not only cos he was fat, old and rubbish, but also cos he was considerably older than one of our best keepers, Luke Steele, who Flicker had declared was too old! Jani Salli, who we signed despite him being injured. Legend has it that his medical saw him being taken for a few pints around town. That may or may not be true, but his medical certainly wasn’t very thorough.
Danny wilsons "experienced" signings he wanted in 2014/15 season werent great either in lita, Keith treacy, dale jennings and ross turnbull all will have been on good money aswell.
He scored a winner in the Premier League. 11 goals in 50 games or something, in the top two divisions. Think it was four in 20 in the Prem. Nothing to write home about and I certainly understand the point around expense. But it feels harsh to have him in such a thread. He scored goals at decent levels pre and post BFC and is his nation’s second highest scorer (even scored against England) and now the Macedonian technical director.
If Oulare was genuinely on 7k a week then he’s got to be up there. At least some of the others who were bad signings actually looked like footballers
Oulare and Iseka are up there. Not his fault at all but Richard Kell is worth a shout. If we paid any cash for James Bailey he's in the discussion, an absolutely diabolical footballer.
