Very talented footballer just unsuited to the pace of the English game

I once sat next to John Dennis at a dinner at Ardsley House. He told me that McCord just didn’t like playing football. Someone on the BBS once commented that in reality he actually suffered badly with his nerves before a game.

Ashley Fletcher. I thought he looked a complete centre forward in his last couple of months with us. I thought there was a very realistic chance of him having a career in the premier league.

    Paddy McCourt.

    What a player.

Couldn’t last more than 20 minutes though. Bags of talent. I always used to look forward to him being announced in the starting XI.

    Think he’s training with Rochdale.

Lumsden. Great on loan. Flopped when he signed and fell away soonafter.

    Shame.

Hristov too, given the transfer fee at the time (lovely lad though!).

I believe he likes Davey. No surprise as he gave him his debut. It's Mark Burton I think it is who he likes the most.

Brian "sick note" McCord. Devastating when he came on loan, AWOL after we signed him.

Unsung hero of that team, playing out of position as well.

Likewise, Carl Tiler. Brilliant for us. I expected he'd laik for England eventually.

He never did. To be fair, injuries did for him, but them new floodlights didn't come out of John Dennis's pocket...

Could add Viv Anderson to this list. In both capacities!

I rated him. Could of played in the premier League for me. He suffered bad anxiety or something thats wy his career was up and down. I was told this by a family member who I sat with in a friendly against the deedars once

Definitely. If you'd asked me at the time to pick who'd have the best career out of Fletcher, Toney or Rashford, my money would have been on Fletcher. Shows what I know.

Carl Tiler is the only footballer to get named in a love letter to me. Well, I say love letter, but it soon descended into a list of my failings, ending with the line ‘Carl Tiler is not the be all and end all’. The gist was that I cared more about BFC than I did for her. A fair criticism. And quite ironic really, considering I eventually dumped her for an Irish nurse called Dani Wilson!

Mike Turner - ex-postman who looked amazing and fast AF but ultimately failed to deliver…
On a more somber note I really wanted Chris Jackson to make it, I wasn’t sure he was good enough but ultimately that future was taken away so tragically.

I thought Paul Digby was going to kick on and bring us millions in when we flogged him to a top team. More recently I thought Aapo Halme and Clark Odour looked great when they first made it into the team. And just this summer I was very disappointed to see Nathan James leave, as I thought we’d got a good one there.

And I hope Aaron Atkinson doesn’t join this group, as I’m hoping he’ll get into the first team this season, as he looked great in the U21s before his injury.

Was on good money as he was renting the penthouse suite at Gateway Plaza.
