    He's on a 1 year contract so don't really see how that affects Barnsley.

    It affects us if the retirement reaper comes for him this season as we're paying his wages which I suspect are higher than people imagine.

    But let's hope he does the remarkable.

    I’m looking forward to seeing him play for us.

    He’s obviously not going to be covering every blade of grass for 90 minutes but his touch, link up play, intelligence and habit of scoring brilliant goals could be key for us.

    Yes, everyone's different. Not sure what your argument is- look at Lebron James in NBA, Tom Brady. And on the other side players that have retired young like Jacob Mellis.

    I like the signing for a year, similar to Norwood at the time. I do think we need way more though and this signing will be successful depending on if we can get legs around him and more bodies in

    Absolutely no doubting his ability. It's about managing him properly and keeping him fit. Look at the impact Steven Fletcher had with Wrexham.

    I'm not trying to make an argument. All the facts are known as are the risks.

    We'll see what impact he can have over a 9 month league 1 season as our main striker (as it stands).

    If he chooses to retire he won't be paid anything.

    Geraint Thomas is curretly riding the Tour de France and he's 18 months older than McGoldrick. The number is irrelevant if he's fit enough and there's nothing to suggest that isn't the case.

    Frankly, we won't know if he can do it for a full league 1 season until he plays in a full league 1 season.

    Yeah agreed with that. We definitely need more bodies- he can't be expected to start every single match. I like the signing if he's expected to be a rotation player and not a week in week out 90 min player

    He’s had a very long career but has (understandably) been plagued with muscle injuries for the last few seasons

    And he’s nowhere near the rider he used to be & is pretty much on bottle duty & working for team mates now.

    I’m hoping McGoldrick has a much bigger impact.

    Ashley Young’s incredible really. He doesn’t seem to get injured much & has completely changed his game in order to be a full back & prolong his career.

    Looks after himself looks fit enough to carry on for 2 years to me, that pass wow, undefendable.

    If he avoids injury I can only see him being a very good signing mate, hope it isn’t a wasted signing if we don’t improve in other areas that are crying out for new signings, i.e. defence

    I think it's down to two main factors why player's don't go much further than their mid 30s at best. The body let's them down all the injuries catch up with them the joints knees ankles and hips can't take it anymore. Then it's up to your desire,the job you're done all your working life another pre season the hard slog to get your body ready. Mcgoldrick will be in the 20s of pre season he obviously still wants to do it. We all love the game can't imagine anything better than been a pro footballer but when you've done the same thing for all them years it must be easy to fall out of love with doing it.

    Agreed, the attack is pretty much sorted for me now but the defence desperately needs a quality right back and centre back.
