Looked a good blow out for us and an open game. Obviously could have scored and conceded more, but that’s us all over.
I thought on the night that York looked far too good for the level they are playing at, and this just reinforces that opinion. I’ll be amazed if they don’t go up this season. If we’d conceded five or six it wouldn’t have flattered them but we could have had a few more as well. Fair result in the end.
The short video reinforces what I thought on the night - that we have some exciting attacking possibilities now, but there are massive holes at the back, where our lack of pace was clear for all to see. If we are not looking to sign a good central defender, in addition to a right-back, it is hard to understand why not.
A couple of observations, some suporters booing at half time and who was the young player with 22 on his back?
Quality bit of football, got the ball out nicely from pressure in their own half. On the brief highlights, and granted its a friendly, they looked the better side. I suspect on a fraction of the cost we dump annually.
The highlights were posted by York City. They don't give an entirely representative picture of the match. I'm pretty sure highlights we post would concentrate more on the positives in our play. I would say that they edged the first half, but we dominated the second. Both teams could have scored two or three more goals. York's manager said he thought a draw was a fair result.
I was there and heard only one boo at half-time. Admittedly a loud one, and probably alcohol -fuelled.
Have York got someone willing to spend to get them up the football ladder? I don't know anything about them to be honest. Given they at least matched us, I'm curious how they've assembled a very decent team. I guess time will tell if that's a version of testament to them or us.
They got 96 points last season, 13 clear of 3rd, but lost in the play-offs to Oldham, for whom Yoganathan scored a cracking 20 yarder. Only one automatic spot from the National League to League Two.
I read they'd just missed out. Interesting we're seeing non league clubs getting money pumped in now. Be interested to see how much they spend in comparison to us.
Scary watching that. Agree York looked good for their level, but out defence is still porous as anything. Some attacking promise, but we'll need to score lots to make up for how many we might concede. Get Cleary on shooting drills all day every day until the season starts. Also, how fat is the York mascot, and why are we having a player play on in a friendly with a head bandage/possible concussion?
It's hard to believe we are not looking for a centre-back, as well as a full-back. Central defence looks very weak. Even if Shepherd does the business, Roberts is not quite the player he was, and De Gevigney is definitely not good enough, in my opinion.
The set up is similar to ours in that the company that owns it is owned by Uggla family who are worth quite a few quid. However the company that owns them is a new company with a turnover of a £1 million pounds. In short the owners aren’t rich but the owners owners are.
Thanks for clarifying that. My information about there being a lot of money at the club comes from someone who used to work there.
