Lone striker up top for Bradford today, all that nonsense about speaking to Graham Alexander and playing in his favoured position out wide. £££££
I thought he said his best position was as a second striker, not out wide? Regardless, I agree with your sentiment. I think it was maybe a bit sour grapes from him because we'd not offered him a better deal.
Play him on the wing, he will do well for them. Play him centrally with his back to goal, he won’t offer much.
From Yorkshire post when he signed "We have some good number 10s who are going to run on and it gives me the space. "As a 'nine' in this team, I will be able to get on the ball and dribble and create chances a lot more than most of last season when I was a target man really. "I wanted to make sure he (Alexander) understood I didn’t want to be that and he wanted to make me feel comfortable that was not what I was brought in for. He wants me to link play up and get into the box. "Once I clarified that, it was ‘where do I sign?’. They still have Andy Cook to come back from injury so he can play off him aswell
Although a Season Ticket holder for Barnsley for many a year, I live in Bradford and have family and friends who support Bradford.Sfter the match against Wycombe they told me that Humphreys had played really well and had been involved in both Bradford goals. I hope he doesn’t come back to haunt us when we play Bradford later in the season!
Bored of hearing about Humphrys now. He clearly thought he was worth more in wages than we did. I think he valued himself too highly for what he ultimately contributed. I don’t buy the “he scores if you play him on the wing” argument either. He predominantly played on the wing at Wigan and scored 14 from 78 and was released. Infact he’s played 220 games in league one and scored 52 goals which is worse than one in four. He has a place in a squad but by no means deserves to be a top earner. He’s not DKD or Phillips level in terms of performances or output.
I was reading the Bbc match report updates, and of course we had the garbage biased reporter from Plymouth, doing our match!. And Bradford had Gary Jones reporting on their match. Yeah one of the famous terrible former Keith Hill signings that we had, from Rochdale!. He was also saying the same about Humphrys, that he's playing the lone role up front, and he's doing it well etc.
Are you getting Gary Jones and Stephen Dawson mixed up? Jones played for us in 04 but they were both centre mids and are similar looking
Ahh it must have been in the Steve Parkin days then, in the early 00s, and not mad Keith Hill lol. When we brought some rubbish in from Rochdale, and Gary Jones was one of them. He got 2 goals in 56 games for us, err apparently, err somehow!!. I'm sure it was him doing the Bradford match updates.
Yeah I would have liked us to keep that version of him, for another season or with the option of making it two seasons. But by that version, I mean the one who really upped his game in the last 7-8 matches. Not the one who before that, looked like he wasn't really trying. The club did the right thing, and its something that doesn't bother me now.
How much did we get for him or did he leave on a free I hope we can keep dk and Philips if we can get the best out of them 2 be close to 40 goals conner should beable to get the best out of Philips I seem to remember little Lee saying conner couldn't play a certain way in the end he was a great player who could even play the dark arts when he stood on that players foot it was funny set him up big time it was criminal haha
