Port Vale v Stoke from the 90's. A classic cup tie played on a ploughed field in a monsoon. Cracking atmosphere, absolutely zero quality to the football. Midway through the second half and 2-1 down, Stoke send on Dave Regis to rescue them. It goes as one might predict. Two absolute moments of true Regis quality. Around 12.45 on the recording, Big Dave tries to stroke the ball into an empty net, but doesn't get a proper contact on it and it gets stuck in the mud. You should also check his "shot" at 14.30. I'm not quite sure how to describe it, you just need to see it for yourselves.
A bit unfair to criticise him for the ball not reaching the goal due to the mud. How many players (particularly after just coming on as sub) would think to try to lift the ball into the roof of the net to avoid the mud? But he was complete shi-ite.
On a pitch that literally consisted of about 80% mud? Surely some players would have the wherewithal to attempt it. Just not Big Dave it seems!
