Just heard that George Williams is currently without a club after being released by Mansfield. I wonder if he could be a shrewd signing by Conor? On the one hand, he’s a 32 year old lower league journeyman who didn’t play much last year. On the other hand - we’ve got no right backs, he’d be cheap, he’s a hard worker and the manager knows him well. Might work better in our flat back 4 this year too - less need for him to get forward. Ideal world we’d be signing a talented up and coming RB, but Williams could provide cover for both full back positions.
Hourihane wanted a really experienced full back in but was told no by the club. The player in question is still a free agent so might go back for him.
I'm surprised they said no given the McGoldrick deal. If he's still available and relatively fit, I'd be happy if we got him in.
Is this an inside scoop? Christie would be an impressive signing at this level. Disappointing if the club stopped Conor getting him in. (Unless he was asking for a 3 year deal on 6k a week)
Do we know that he's mates with Conor? Genuine question, as I imagine Conor has had hundreds of team mates over the years, and the likelihood that he gets on with all of them is pretty slim.
There was an interview with Hourihane last week on the radio where he said he wanted four experienced players but was told to move away from that idea. And I know the experienced full back Hourihane wanted was very close to signing around the same time as McGoldrick.
Not at all. Just a guess based on Conor saying that he’d had conversations with former teammates about signing with us. Christie would’ve been in the Ireland national team around the same time as Conor/McGoldrick/Keogh. We were linked with Aaron McGowan from Northampton earlier in the summer. He’s still out of contract.
