Who had 24 hours in the sweepstake for how long it would take Marc to lock a thread rather than dealing with the transphobia within it?

    Anyone?

I fully expect one of his trademark bans for highlighting that it's not a surprise to anyone what course of action he would take.

I often hear that racism and hate speech shouldn't be removed from the BBS because it's more important for the perpetrators to be called out and to be educated on what is right or wrong. Sadly this is something that is stifled I here of late.

I don't think this is a wise course to take.

We fall on the same side of the debate and there were certainly comments from the other side that went way too far.. but I also feel the way you went after Helen at times was unfair. She does far better than most could ever dream of in terms of staying level headed and respectful when debating delicate and controversial subjects she is passionate about, even when opposed by multiple passionate people. It's a difficult debate but her primary concern is one that should be respected. Its a grey subject and respect will take us far further than conflict.

In the end Marc was right to close that thread. There was some good debate earlier but it has run its course.

Disagree. Helen posted misinformation over and over. Multiple people pulled her up on it and yet it's still there on the BBS to allow thick people to read and believe. In that way it's no different now to twitter under musk allowing hatred to spread via misinformation.

Calling out misinformation, bigotry and transphobia should not be stopped. Removing transphobia, bigotry and misinformation is what should happen .

The 'phobes and racists are always the first to whinge about the "pile ons", but they are always the ones who seem to be favoured when threads are locked. I'd rather these things were left to fizzle out and enroute they get shown for what they are to the nth extreme.
We'll never see the likes of "Does God exist" again.
Maybe admin are in discussion what to do about the thread, give them the benefit of the doubt.
    Perhaps.

Too many keyword warriors on this site I am afraid, not interested in the said debate tbh, but I was brought up to respect women and still do even though some get on mi nerves lol. If this debate was played out in a pub or whatever then certain folk would have got a good crack from some people I know for the way they have spoke to Helen. More to point I bet some of those who disrespected her “couldn’t knock skin off a rice pudding “, I am foooking gobsmacked that person who created that thread thought it should go on a football forum, end of!

Nail on the head. Better just to stick to talking football on here- even then can go the same way

Many BBSers really need to come to terms with the fact that there's a whole world outside the forum that doesn't agree with their views on all kinds of things. Normal people with normal opinions, that just happen to be different to theirs. The way they chuck around 'phobes' and 'isms' suggests they lack any perspective, and the way they react to those different views on here is frequently embarrassing. That's how it's become a little echo chamber, most can't be fussed with it any more.

Just for clarity Is this aimed at the ‘Lefties’ or the ‘Gammons’ seriously since when has an opinion been ‘fully’ shared and agreed with whether on here or any other board? You do realise your whole post could easily be interpreted as you being the one that needs to ‘come to terms with the fact that there’s a whole world outside the forum’

You need to get your head around that not everyone is as ‘right minded’ as you.

And newsflash, that isn’t exclusive to the bbs either.

Don’t believe all you see and hear. The whole world isn’t in agreement with you. You aren’t even a majority.

That’s rubbish pal sorry, “Left Right whatever”, there’s a way to speak/respect a woman and you didn’t in my eyes. Crack on pal, my post wasn’t political at all it was just what I thought and I believe I am right(omg I hope isn’t termed political lol).

So, the fact Helen is female means we should interact with her differently, unequally, and not call out things she says that we find to be repugnant?

    It isn’t 1957 WG.

Helen doesn’t need that level of protection. She’s perfectly capable of handling herself - and whilst I found a lot of her input ridiculous on that thread and on that particular subject, she very clearly needs no support from you or any other knight in shining armour in every interaction ever made on this forum.

I think I’ll continue to view people in the same manner and judge them on their words and actions, not their gender. Male or female anyone has the right to be viewed and interacted with equally and that equality doesn’t only work one way - it’s exactly the same when there is a disagreement too. There’s no ‘oh she’s a woman so I’m not calling that out’. Absolutely not. I don’t know Helen in person but I know with absolute certainty that the women in my life, wife, mum, even daughters now they’re growing up - mother in law, sister in law - if I tried to positively discriminate and treat them in any different manner for being the ‘gentler sex’ then there’s a very high chance I’d be lacking the equipment which differentiates me biologically!

I am massively opposed to Helen’s views on the issues on the other thread - I’ve said as much - but on other matters, including football on the odd occasion, (almost bizarrely for this forum), there have been more congenial interactions and from my point of view will continue to be.
