While the Home Office justified the ban on security grounds, Cooper — she took the decision — has received roughly a quarter of a million pounds from donors and organisations closely aligned with pro-Israel lobbying interests. Documents also show that the Israeli embassy and figures linked to arms manufacturer Teledyne had already been pressing the UK government to clamp down on the group, whose activism targeted companies like them, who are supplying Israel’s military. Proscribing PA wasn’t an independent judgement as far as I can tell. It was the culmination of sustained pressure from powerful, well-funded interests with a direct hand in an ongoing genocide. Let’s not overlook the over-600 RAF flights over Gaza since the end of 2023. Providing intel to the Zionist state. To describe human beings who are against the actions taking place in Gaza as ‘terrorists’, to arrest people who oppose ethnic cleansing, you’d have to be a fascist.
You very clearly do. Whatever the governemnt say you're the first one there to defend it. Makes you look a knob when he government flip flops as much as this one is.
I don't accept the government, whatever it's faults, is 'genocide enabling'. (Don't expect me to trade insults with you if that's where you want to take the conversation, BTW.)
Well it's not even using the word when it clearly is genocide. So that leaves it where exactly? Playing politics?
Just seen a Labour MP on ITV compare those protesting at the weekend with the IRA. Are they all part of some conspiracy to destroy their own party? What a shambles. And the majority on this forum voted for the ghouls. edit - the MP was Alex Davies-Jones. Part of the Labour Friends of Israel. Regular trips to the occupied territories. Abstained twice from votes on a ceasefire. Refused to sign a letter calling for a suspension of arms to Israel. And today she made Richard f***** Madeley look sensible on live TV.
I agree with you that this is dangerous territory and the government has to take a stand against such actions. Not least because its actually very embarrassing that a couple of protestors were able to breach the security so easily. They could have done a lot more damage had they been so inclined. The arrested protesters don't consider spraying paint qualifies as terrorism. Civil disobedience is the more usual term. The problem is you now cant support the aims of Palestine Action without being considered a supporter of terrorism. The government has now created a problem when its having to arrest peacfully protesting pensioners because they dont agree with the cause they are supporting. That seems a misuse of the powers of government to me .
Why does anyone think that the Israeli government give a shiny dogs egg what the British government think, never mind protests that they won’t even know is happening? The protesters should just go to Israel and do it directly where it may carry some weight otherwise they are just randomers shouting for the sake with no gains to be had.
What annoys me is that if it was the tories in power you’d be the first to be criticising them. And our government is absolutely complicit in genocide and continues to fund and provide the weapons used to commit it.
The problem is that the police lack nuance and are totally unable to distinguish between people explicitly supporting "Palestine Action" and people simply supporting the Palestinian people. If I walked down a street in London carrying a Palestine flag but with nothing else linking me to the proscribed organisation, the chances are that I would be arrested. I don't particularly blame the police for this, they should be concentrating on everyday crime, the government have put them in a very unnecessary and difficult position.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c1dxndnkq6yt Now resorting to killing Al Jazeera journalists, they've come up with some "evidence" that suggests this guy was part of Hamas. In response the BBCs Jeremy Bowen says it is unconvincing. Sorry, but death to Netanyahu, death to those far right fuckers propping up his government and death to those IDF soldiers who are just shooting at the civilians. Israel make me sick with their anti semitism bull ****.
Interest groups have always had a powerful part to play in British politics. The current Government is clearly compromised. Streeting bought by private medicine. And the money going to ministers from Likud friendly donors is staggering. This coupled with a very inexperienced PM (only a MP for 5 years) is a recipe for disaster. Those defending this need to think about the future. Say as is very likely Labour alienate everyone enough to allow Farage in he will have clear reign to declare anything he doesn’t like as ‘terrorist’ regardless of how untruthful it is. I can see ICE style raids and trade unions being proscribed as terrorist.
A while ago Palestine Action accessed one of Trump's Scottish golf courses and left a large message on one of the holes/greens. Trump said something like 'I hope they are dealt with severely'. May or may not have anything to do with the proscription but I wouldn't be surprised if 'honest' Keir wanted to look tough for Trump's benefit. Human rights/democracy are really under pressure in this country at the moment. Who would have thought a Labour government would be implementing draconian Tory anti-protest laws? Yet another nail in this rudderless, morally bankrupt government's coffin.
