I'd be absolutely gutted if he went. Granted, he missed a couple today, which he would usually score. But hes so consistent for us. People can keep saying he's not a 9, which I actually dont think is his best position, I think it's in the 10 role, but nobody can suggest he hasn't been brilliant there for us
I think you have to take player sales and purchases into account when talking about balancing a budget though. I don't think it's possible for a club of our size to have a balanced budget without selling players
He's the best player we have and our main goal threat. Sell him and we are a pretty on the eye mid-table side.
Definitely would not be happy to see him go, especially at this stage of the window. He’s not only brilliant on the ball, he works so hard off it too. As others have said, with Russell’s contract situation, it is most likely to be him sold you’d think. Then probably Phillips.
As long as the money is right, say £6million plus add ons, then yes it would be madness not to sell, as long as a good portion of that money is reinvested on a couple of defenders who can defend & a striker.
Not been impressed with Barrett at all from what I've seen. Not physically big and strong enough for centre half and isn't the quickest either.
I think it's inevitable someone will leave. The giving of Connell the captaincy you would think that rules that out. I would think it's which player's valuation is met first. Maybe it's one dkd to two other midfielders. It might actually work out for the best dkd is no winger or centre forward if say Phillips leaves he might play Connell and Kelly deeper and dkd more like a ten. I've got a feeling Hourihane is trying to shoehorn his best player's into a system he wants to play but doesn't necessarily suit all the best player's.
If we want promotion we have to keep him. I'd hope the clubs focusing on the other end of the pitch because we are still dire at the back.
russell not good enough- apart from goal- what did he contribute - think thats why he was left on doesnt put himsel about enough he is lazy
There are other ways of balancing the books though. He's tried and tested in this league, why let him go to a rival that could keep us in league 1 for yet another season. We could let him go in January if we really need to, once we've put a big dent in the league. It's different to throwing money we don't have on a load of expensive players in the hope they deliver.
Not so much not good enough but he certainly doesn't suit Hourihane style of play. He has his strengths but high press high tempo football aren't two of them I would imagine he's one we would like to sell.
Bang, bang.... nope, I missed. I’d be fine selling DKD for a super crazy fee, but not for anything less—especially at this stage of the window. We’ve got other saleable assets I think we’d be wiser to move on first. That said, we can’t control who comes in for our players or what they offer. Ultimately, it comes down to whether we need to sell and how much we need to recoup.
We'd have looked a lot, lot poorer last night if he hadn't been playing. He was so close to having a very memorable match, a few things didn't quite come off for him.
And long may it continue. My point wasn't ment as criticism i just think he already knows some of the player's there's been speculation about won't be here come the beginning of September. The recruitment this summer has been around his style of play, as good as they are some player's aren't suited to the high press 433.
