There's no right or wrong way to do it though the game has changed, traditions have largely gone.
So you are accepting of Luton losing 17m the season they got to the PL but not having Wrexham doing it by increasing turnover by +155% bigger than 19 championship clubs, paying off 15m loan to the owners leading to posting a loss of 2.7m, odd stance.
If Luton go and blow their parachute payment of £30m in the next 2 weeks and walk the league this will be okay then as they weren't frivolous despite losing 17m getting promoted.

The media ‘fairytale’ love in surrounding Wrexham is bad enough already. Lord help us if they make the Prem.

Now that’s a really good question, because ‘fit and proper’ & ‘due diligence’ only seem to become an issue when things go awry.

Barnsley FC don’t need big investment. As I’ve just replied to your other post, we’re not in the same situation as Wrexham were.

It wouldn’t sit well with me either if we started smashing our transfer and wage structures overnight, no.

Agree last few seasons we have nearly gone back up, but a bit of investment would only help the cause(if passes due diligence of course). Longer we stay in this league then smaller and smaller our crowds will get. At risk of contradicting myself I do believe we have a chance of success as it is this season, but a sizeable injection of cash could be the difference between us recruiting the players needed to make sure we move forward. Only my opinion btw

    Bit like us really
    11k average in 96/97
    18k average in 97/98
9.7k average in 2003 during administration
Pull 30k + fans for an FA cup semi final 5 years later

You seem to be of the belief that their owners have just chucked loads of money at them. They've spent a bit, no doubt about it (so have our owners as we all know), but they've also massively increased their revenues, as detailed above which you seem to be overlooking.

Would I like some owners to come in and do the same for us, absofookinlutely.

That’s Wrexham’s accounts from the season before last, when they came up from league 2. How much do you reckon they have spent in this window. Probably more than Luton lost. Lad from Ipswich reputed to be £10m this week.

Talking about Luton blowing their parachute money is a bit pointless at this moment, because a far as I know it hasn’t happen, and if they were going to do it, surely last season would be the time?

The whole thing about Wrexham’s turnover being down to the documentary etc, still amounts to the same thing. Money they wouldn’t have had if Disney hadn’t got involved. Will be interesting to see how the documentaries go if things aren’t going too well on the pitch.

Listen mate. If you find it acceptable, or something to aspire to, you might even have them as your ‘second club’ - that’s fine, each to their own.

Football might have changed for some, but it doesn’t mean everyone has to go down the same route to try and keep up.

I’m not of the belief of anything. They haven’t had to spend a load of money until now, because they started in the 5th tier. They’ve certainly outmuscled the majority of the opposition on their way up.

And equally it doesn't mean they aren't deserving of their success.
They've got a net spend of 18m so far this season and agreed a new deal of 430k per episode, TV revenue of 12m, that's before their commercial operation and sponsorship kicks in.
You talk about money they wouldn't have had etc like it's not allowed, do they just have to stay in their lane then? bit like Chelsea then didn't have a pot to p*** in under Ken Bates 1 league title in 1955 and 3 fa cups before Russian oil money, Man City 2 league titles before Saudi oil money but these are acceptable because they were big clubs.

You are clearly on the windup trying to get nibbles about the 2nd club stuff.

No big peaks and troughs there though. Of course we were going to sell plenty for the Prem & Wembley days, everyone does.

Our average gates have remained pretty steady since before we got promoted to the prem. I don’t think we’ve ever dropped back to the 80s & 90s numbers.

Here are Readings. Huge spike since Autotrader guy took over.

Yep, and now they'll have to spend more to compete in the championship, as does every club. But their revenues keep growing. As long as their owners aren't saddling them with debt, which it doesn't seem they are, then I'm not sure what your issue is with it.

I think their owners are very savvy, certainly know what they are doing when it comes to promoting and marketing the club.

No big peaks or troffs??? Nearly a 50% drop off from 98 to 03
You mentioned Reading mustering nearly 20k against us but stepped away during Elm Park, we averaged 2.8k in 1973 to 15k in 1982 back down to 5.8k in 1987, didn't our fans step away then.

Where did I ever say it’s not or shouldn’t be allowed, or that it’s acceptable for big clubs - it might be more expected at big clubs. I don’t like it and I don’t respect it. I just think it’s more obvious and showy when it’s done with a tiny club. It’s not like they’re being returned to past glories of a level where they once spent much time.

I’d be concerned if we went down that route. I get that others wouldn’t, but that’s just me.

Which part of ‘since the season before promotion to the prem’ do you count 1973 in?

Reading went from 3800 to 24000 after their guy took over.

Barnsley fans might have ebbed and flowed due to success or lack thereof. Miners strike, Administration, but we’ve never grown our average gate by 20k on the back of someone’s investment in the club.

Reading are now averaging 12k, so they’ve lost a huge chunk, and they could drop again this season.

You've tried to make out their Success, isn't being done in the right way because it doesn't conform to a purist tradition ,because they've been a small club for most of their History and its been done in a completely different context to anything seen beforehand.
The game will never return to a place where you could assemble a team, keep them together for 4 years and end up in the Premier League spending nothing, those days are in the past.
They have a completely innovative model that's growing the club profile beyond belief, giving them some financial muscle, some people knock them as they might just unsettle the self entitled pecking order.
Football has become business along time ago, clubs are trying to appeal to new fan bases through new platforms across the world, they are doing exactly what the big boys are, but just because they don't have an illustrious history shouldn't mean they can't join in.

But we've also never moved stadiums, look how many clubs have moved stadiums and grown fambases, Reading almost got promoted to the PL in 95 losing to Bolton but achieved it finally in 2006, between those years they found a new owner, a new stadium and a team in the PL so naturally will have attracted a new fanbase that wasn't there prior as the club grew to its most successfull period ever, they've never dropped below 12k in the last 25 years despite some horrendous ownership issues recently.
We've also never had any sustained investment at the club to be able to compare like for like vs Reading, do you think if someone came in to Barnsley and spent a huge wedge of cash over the next 10 years we wouldn't attract new fans/dropp offs? It's obvious at any football club success brings new fans etc, it's normal.
