Not seen much praise for him thought he was excellent last night very assured and composed don’t see him losing the RB spot now love the calm head doesn’t panic under pressure and very direct and can go forward just as much as doing the defensive role quality pickup especially on a free
I commented the same ,but for both full backs, also when Bland came on. Come on BFC get another Bobby Thomas in on loan .
For the majority, did very well. Tired late on and started to lose his positioning, but I'm pretty happy with our full back options given Bland can slot in right and Earl left.
Very solid player. Nothing fancy, but looks like he'll be a reliable 7/10 every week, which is fine by me. Versatile too - an excellent person to have in the squad.
Earl had one of his best games last night since he first joined us and I think having Ogbeta along side him is not a coincidence. If Watson can do the same for MDG then the back line could be much improved
In fairness, he ended the game on the opposite flank to where he's used to, which probably didn't help.
He did you're right, but I think it was him that took on a lot of water at one point and some tablet, I'm guessing he was cramping, then very late on he was jogging back in very slowly after he got bypassed, so I suspect his fitness is a little behind the others. A very high intensity game though, I don't think we'll get that level of pace and closing down very often.
I was a bit skeptical about this signing to begin with, I didn’t feel he would be an improvement on O’Keefe or Cotter but he seems to be miles ahead of them defensively. He wasn’t spectacular last night, but he was solid, which is all I ask for in a full back. Same with Ogbeta. Early days though & certainly not getting carried away given the poor opposition we’ve faced thus far.
Undoubtedly he'll be behind in terms of fitness. It's only a fortnight ago that he was lining up in those PFA trialist teams. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does when he is playing week in week out though, because last night set a good benchmark for him in particular.
If it were the choice of a striker or centre half, I'd choose striker. Telling our striker on the bench last night was Farrell.
He said he was basically blowing out of his arse last 10 mins , but played really well that 98th min chance they had from the cross he couldn't get across to him , thought all the new guys are coming good, negative is we only gave him 12 month contract.
If it is a choice it is a centre half all day long.....look at our goals against column for the last 12 months for proof, also we don’t usually struggle to score goals.
We've conceded 4 in 4 games so far... 2 of those absolute howlers, plus a daft penalty. If you look last night, we could have gone nap. We ended up getting just one from a lucky own goal. I'd like a better centre half to replace DeGevigney, but I don't think we can offload him. As it stands we still have 5 centre halves at the club, plus Lopata out on loan who we'll be contributing to the wages of. Sometimes, you just have to make do given the resources you've got. At some point, it's highly likely McGoldrick gets injured or suspended. I don't see an obvious replacement and asking Farrell to do a job looks too soon for him. But we shall see what happens. It wouldn't surprise me to see one of each arrive, but I really hope we try and balance the midfield part of the squad. We just have too many players there.
Would make a new thread poll that...See if we could only have one or the other if BBSers would want a centre half or centre forward.
We should have scored more mcgoldick hit the post and put a one on one wide, then Philips hit a 1 on 1 at the keeper. We do need another striker but also a center half because for me robbo seems more injury prone the older he gets. If I had to pick one I'd have to prioritise another striker as if mcgoldick gets injured were ******.
I'll be very, very surprised if we are paying anything towards Lopata's wages. He won't be on a huge amount and Bristol Rovers have ploughed plenty of money into big named players over the last couple of years
I think there is a strong chance that Russell will be transferred before the window closes, which would be a shame, because he's a very talented player. As he has definitely got an eye for goal, a great touch, is good in the air and does his best work in an advanced position, I wonder if any thought has been given to converting him to a striker. Or is that a daft idea? It just seems a shame that a player who has scored 6 goals in his last 6 starts for us, plus 3 international goals this summer, cannot currently get into our starting eleven.
