The ones down Carlton Road are a pain in the arse. Too big.
Also, the ones on Overdale Avenue (i think) are bloody pointless! Can drive straight over them with ease.

Oh aye ... To my knowledge there has only been one near fatal accident in Houghton in the last 20 odd years, yet we have a 'calming island' completely blocking one carrigeway, thirteen speed bumps in just over a mile of road and we're due to get a one of them annoying radar things that broadcasts your speed as well. Barmy.
mapplewell they are huge, and so high people use them as crossings. was horrible to drive through before couldnt go fast anyway now you go just as slow and nacker up you suspension
The ones through Royston, or any speedbumps on a main road where the speed limit is 30mph yet it's impossible to do much over 10mph without damaging the car.
How about nominating the worst speed bump traits from drivers ... I f'king despise the idots who slow down to a virtual stop, go over the bump at about 2mph only to speed right between the bumps, before slowing to a virtual stop again. JUST DRIVE OVER THE F'KING THINGS AT A REASONABLE CONSTANT SPEED!!!!! Pet hate is that one ...
RE: How about nominating the worst speed bump traits from drivers ... The reasonable constant speed though would have to be 2mph!
well. don't it seem a bit of a coincidence that I have had to at least 3/4 times a year have the tracking (as well as suspension) seen to since these were installed and that it has happened to 3 cars and whilst I drive over them at 20mph (way under speed limit). Granted, it aint too bad since they ripped up the old ones, and put the tarmac ones down as I have not had much trouble since, but this has got to be the most densely populated road in the country for s/humps.
it's the bumps the original speed bumps that were put in were supposedly temporary so they used the kind that just bolt into the road and so sit up a good few inches higher than normal speedbumps and they caused damage to many peoples cars. After recieving several complaints the council has now ripped them up and put down the traditional type which are more sunk into the road.
agreed. Along with people that park up next to a speedbump forcing everybody that drives down the road to move into the middle and knacker their car up by going over the bump with only one side of the car.
Drive over them at a reasonable speed, 30mph (it is the limit that THEY decided was a reasonable and safe speed for the road), and then send barnsley council a bill for repairs to your car when damage is caused.
