Just to remind some of you fossils that you were young once https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/1250
Y You’re not kidding, I remember like it was yesterday, Phil Thompson coming off injured following a tackle from former Dustman Paul Walker, Thompson commented along the lines of ‘ I think he must’ve thought he was still collecting dustbins’ Scorer David Johnson had a nice little loan spell with us, seem to remember him scoring at Leeds
One of the best ever footballing sides I can ever remember. Watched them all over the country. They were special days especially the faithful that turned up in large numbers home and away.
Full strength Liverpool line up that and they were European Champions at the time I think. Remember little of the game if I’m honest other than Walker’s goal at the spion kop end. Remember it being another foggy night like the first game at Anfield but didn’t realise Liverpool’s second and third goals came so late in the game.
Didn't we beat 3 1st division teams prior to this. Brighton Swansea and man City Aylot the winner in the city game. Packed in the Brewery stand 33 k at this game if I remember.
remember Grimsby games, Nigel Nigel chant, their goalie used to get mad as hell, those were the days, think I am still in shock from when we was 2 nil up at their ground one year and lost 3-2, he had last laugh that day, I was only young and my next door door neighbour used to take us all over watching reds, before the days that he would have been accused of being a Peado
Ultra-foggy for Anfield; almost as foggy for Oakwell. Colin Walker scored and it was a good 30 seconds til the rumour reached the Ponty and we all cheered a goal we didn't see. Halcyon days. Makes 2022 even sadder in my eyes.
I remember it being 1-1 with about 10 minutes to go and we thought "we've go 10 minutes to win this" and went all out for a winner. Liverpool, on the other hand were of the mindset that if they kept it as it was for another 10 minutes, they had 30 minutes extra-time to win it in and ended up scoring on the break before Whinge-bag Dalgleish scored the third. All about experience!
78-82 for me, without a shadow of doubt! What a great time to be following the Reds all over the shop. It's worrying how 40 years have passed since mind, think i need a brandy!
Great night, only spoilt by the ball being cleared from a corner, hitting one our players, going up in the air only to fall perfectly for Souness (dirty git) to volley it in. Oh and by Souness (nasty git) knobbling Ray McHale before the ball left the centre circle at the kick-off.
Funny thing is, is that Phil Thompson has incessantly moaned about the challenge he received from Walker
