I was at the Proact in Chesterfield yesterday for a charity match in aid of dementia which Ernie Moss (ex Chesterfield) suffers from (a long story, but although a Reds supporter for 47 years I did spend a couple of seasons covering Chesterfield for local radio). One of the speakers was Alan Birch; I'd never have recognised him (see attached picture). Just realised he's the same age as me, that makes me feel young again!
hmm I certainly wouldn't have recognised him either. But then again, you'd be hard pressed to recognise me from a photo taken almost 40 years ago. Decent player, I remember him tormenting the Luton defence at their place last game of the season 81/2. He won a penalty and we would have won but for a wonder strike from Brian Stein in the last minute.
