There’s some great records mentioned in this thread. I’ve got quite a lot of them memory is a bit Hazy but I think my first couple were compilations Beatles Blue Album I think was the first. My first proper album I think was A Night at the Opera but it was so long ago I can’t be completely certain

I came into music buying quite late, we were too poor as kids, and we had no record player

first album was Motown Chartbusters Vol3 (and still have it), closely followed by Paranoid and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (the latter being my fav album)

Hunting High and Low - A-ha. Bought from a little record shop in Falmouth as a ten year old but I had to wait until my sister would let me use her new cassette player.

REM - Out Of Time. Although the first single I ever bought was Nessum Dorma as a football mad 9 year old during the 1990 World Cup.

I like The Jam but it is weird watching them because they look like the Small Faces but have a totally different sound.

Try caress of steel, 2112. Then quickly move to exit stage left. What an album.

I'm a Moving Pictures man personally. Rush are one of the most unique bands ever. A lot of their stuff is quite close to being overblown rock or even cheesy power pop in places, yet they're also capable of moments of genius which very few bands could get close to. 2112 is also a great album by the way.

Spot on! Moving Pictures is a wonderful Album. Listened to it in its entirety last week for the first time in years. Brilliant.

You can’t be “one of the most unique bands ever.” That wouldn’t make you unique! :)

You may have a linguistic point there, though I'll have to think about it!
