Anyone else think he had an excellent game today, particularly before he was shunted out to the left then the right to make way for subs.? Looked to have the makings of a good partnership with Ken.
Yes, I thought he was excellent. Willing to receive the ball anywhere, play short or longer, took people on and even showed a bit of strength to win the ball back a few times. Looked much like the player I thought we'd signed 18 months ago. Looks very much like he'll get his chance this year, so fingers crossed he can produce similar displays when it matters. Well done young man - man of the match by a distance for me.
Dougall was 2nd on my list of player ratings, and they combined well. He too was comfortable in possession and looked to play forward.
Mowatt bossed it. I wanted us to get shut of him, but he was great. Can hit corners, too, from both sides. So much to be positive about today, and the most positive thing was Mowatt. He looks fit, worked hard to win the ball back, and then got us going forward. Good lad. Keep it up.
Think part of the problem was we took on a ‘broken’ player -not unsurprising at Leeds. And it must have been hard for a lad that burst onto the scene in spectacular style for a couple of seasons to fall down the pecking order. Hopefully he’s finding his form, confidence and love for the game. Seems an arm round the shoulder rather than kick up the arse type. Still really young in grand scheme of things. Was really surprised by how sharp and fit he was. Has a turn of pace & didn’t drop his work rate all game.
I certainly did think like you matey. In fact across the whole team it was a very good performance IMHO. The pre-season build up has been most encouraging for me.
Yep, mentioned it in a couple of different threads. Looks a different player to what I’ve seen before, let’s hope he can keep it up.
Not to mention being brought in as our highest paid player at the time with the expectation of replacing Hourihane. A lot of pressure. Big season ahead for Alex. Hope the clean slate it just what he needs.
Has looked a different player in these two games, need to see what happens when he's in a battle with some pub league thug and he is very one-footed but so far so good and it's almost like a new signing.
Good to hear I don't do friendlys but I'd almost written mowatt off he looks like he has lost abit of weight hopefully he is the player we thought we signed 18months ago.
New manager clean slate has started the season positively it's going to be a big season for Mowatt he looked a lot sharper and that hit from 35 yards!!!
I wasn't there today but managed to make the WBA game which I thought he bossed in the first half. Was great to see!
On today's viewing that CM pairing must be one of the best in the league. How long does Mowatt have left on his contract?
Sorry, two-and-a-half-year deal. Still, get the pen out! https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2017/january/alex-mowatt-is-a-red-/
I was going to say Hourihane esque…. but it may have been a bit more Archdeacon. We need goals from midfield desperately, so nice to know we've a few players who can strike a ball.
He's looked fit and lively these friendly matches. I'm hoping he can carry it through into the season and he'll be an exciting one to watch if he does.
