Who went to Millwall and how was your experience? Maybe we could let people know there is absolutely nothing to worry about. COYR
Last time I went was to Cold Blow Lane. Derek Parker's first game. 2-2 draw about 1980. Went on the Supporters coach. Me and my mate were late coming out of the ground and saw the bus pulling out of the car park. Never sprinted as fast in my life as I did that day!!! I know it doesn't really help regards the intentions of the thread, lol, but at the time we were more than a little worried! In terms of Sunday...I really can't see there being any problem...though it won't be as pleasant an atmosphere as Oxford.
I didn't go this season, but I've been for last few games prior to this year - and on train, not on supporters coach, and saw absolutely no problems.
Been there several times in recent years. Was there in 10/11, 11/12, 12/13, 13/14 and this season. Not blowing my own trumpet but I'd probably be able to give quite an accurate account. They love the w*nker sign down there. You get it directed at you arriving into the carpark, when you first get into the ground, during the match, at the final whistle whatever the result and when you are leaving the carpark. You might hear the odd 'darty nawvern cants' in the distance. About 20 guys aged about 12 run towards the away end when they score. In terms of trouble that is as bad as it gets. If you go on the coach it is pretty impossible to even go near any of their fans unless you look for it. The away coach park is basically like a pen with high barbed wire fences. I'm sure this is down to the reputation they accumulated long ago. I'm not sure if you're allowed to walk around the ground as I've never attempted it. Millwall is one of my favourite away days. It's a proper club with a proper ground. Their fans are just so damn passionate, they kick every ball, go bonkers when the ref gives us a decision and can make a right racket. They have been deafening at times at the Den singing the famous 'Let em come' song and chanting the slightly irritating 'MILLLLLLLL' chant.
Been a few times, both alone and with others. Never had any problems - might be wrong but I do feel if you don't go looking for trouble you'll be absolutely fine - same as most places. Last time I went there was a couple of years ago when Tudgay scored right at the end. Randomly bumped into two Danish tourists that day at Surrey Quays station who wanted to go to see a football game while in London. They ended up sitting in the Barnsley end, celebrating with us as we nicked it at the death. They picked the right supporters to befriend that day.
Been countless times, only ever have I been worried and that was when the game was called off and as we stood on bermondsey tube station loads of milwall ran towards us throwing traffic coins... luckily the tube pulled up and we get on it and ****ed off home. They're no different to BFC, if you go there giving it the Billy big ******** they'll want to knock you down a peg or two, same as any where else! Stop worrying about it, it's cringe worthy...
I've said this in another thread, but it might be better in here. I've been to a fair few Millwall matches in the past few years, and the only concerning things I've seen are 1)the trouble at their FA cup semi, where they were fighting amongst themselves and that trouble at the Keep moat when they went on a bit of a rampage. In fairness to their fans, they don't seem a bad bunch. Onviously they have more than their share of idiots, but you can't tar them all wi the same brush.
Went in 13/14. Lost 1-0. Absolutely zero problems. This season the away fans usual walkway to the station was closed, meaning we had to walk back among the Millwall fans who'd just seen their team lose in the last minute . . . again, absolutely zero problems and zero signs of trouble. If anyone is genuinely not going because of their fans then they need to have a word with themselves.
Only been to Millwall once, a couple of seasons back. Due to being very pushed for time we tried a different route to what we'd planned and ended up lost in Bermondsey. After a fifteen minute walk in the general direction of The Den we asked for directions and a Millwall fan gave us a lift, effectively saving the day for us as it was already 3.10pm. He was a diamond. Afterwards we got the train back with loads of Millwall fans and there were no problems whatsoever. They weren't interested in trouble, just as we weren't. In the ground, it's as safe as houses. The only difference to any other away game is that the Millwall fans were louder, more pasisonate and seemingly more old school in their support. All good in my book. A few of their lads like to run across the upper tier when they score and those in the bottom tier love a gesture or three, but yeah, no problems. I felt a lot more at home at Millwall than coming out of Selhurst Park with a bunch of skinny jean wearing, cocky little Hurrah Henrys chelping about how **** the North is. The hysteria around playing them on Sunday has been cringeworthy. Of course it won't be as family friendly as playing an Oxford or an Ipswich, but it won't be the war zone some have tried to make out. A minute or so of footage of scrapping with themselves against Wigan in the FA Cup Semi two years ago seems to have become the standard expectation. Look more towards their Wembley games against Swndon and S****horpe, seemingly trouble free.
I've lived down here 30 years and always look forward to matches at The New Den. Never had any problems. Although I did turn once down the offer from a Millwall fan at work who said I could borrow his season ticket and go in the home stand freebies. Wouldn't risk the chance of my forgetting where I was and jumping up if/when Barnsley score. And there is a certain irony in the fact that the main stand is sponsored by a funeral directors.
Pretty much agree, my previous visit was to the old Den when you had to walk through an underpass. Lots of banter and few verbals but genuinely passionate supporters.
Quite like Palace, been a few times and had a few social events with their supporters. Found them like most fans happy talking about players who have played for us both I.e Bruce Dyer Shipperley and Geoff Thomas.
Been including dark winter midweek and it's a little weird getting off the train into what is in effect a pen to walk to the away end to but didn't see any problems.
Went down to the old den late 80s in a minibus. Stopped off first at tower bridge and had a couple: no problem. Then stopped off round the elephant and castle and had a few more: no problem. Then had a couple about half mile from the ground: no problem. After the match (which we lost about 4 - 0) we got ambushed big time, bottles, bricks planks and all: big problem. However I am here to tell the tale. The 1980s eh!
I ought to feel a bit differently about them than I do. Those who know Owen of the Supporters Trust will probably know some of this story. We went to one of their first games at the New Den in 1993 and got talking to one of their fans on the train. He looked every bit the typical Millwall nutter, so we must have been absolutely bonkers when we accepted his invite to have a pre-match drink at his local. The mind boggles what could have happened to us. Him and his mates really looked after us though. We had a good sesh with them and they not only made sure we got to the game safe, but also took us back to their pub after the game as well. Owen kept in touch with them so well afterwards, he married one of the lasses who was part of their group.
Went with Dove when Anderson was manager - one of their lot actually jumped on our bus offering us out. Yeah they're sound lads.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
went this season. had a drink with some millwall at london bridge.......................no trouble. no hassle on train into bermondsey................no trouble. no cowards walk/pen this year so walked to ground with there fans................no trouble. we scored the winner in injury time and feared the worse. no police escort to bermondsey station after the game, bit of banter but no trouble. they say fear no foe..............my experience with millwall gives me no fear.
