Patrick Cryne is the true successor of the Rev. Tiverton Preedy. One founded a club for us and the other saved it for us. I for one will be eternally grateful. It has been a cornerstone of my life for over 60 years. I couldn't imagine life without it. Thanks, Patrick.
The bloke and his board members over the years have made far too many mistakes and at times made it very difficult to support the club. Some good times have been had too, despite what we say. But I am grateful. I'm pleased we were taken over by a fellow supporter and at no point have we looked likely to go out of business or fall through the divisions. We've not looked likely to prosper either, and we have relied on Patrick to top up our finances. But I've never wanted that. For him to throw money at it. So I'm not going to get on bended knee and worship him. I do however respect him and would be pleased if he and the family continued to own the club for as long as they wish to and so long as they do so with the clubs interests at heart. But I will always criticise him where warranted, as I'm sure he would me were the roles reversed. Over 27 seasons now I have paid into and supported this club in numerous ways and so I appreciate we all do our bit and that nobody is supreme. But anyone abusing Cryne or his family are idiots and aren't a fair reflection of the BFC fanbase. If he needs a thread like this to be convinced that the majority of our fans are decent folk and not out to get him then he's surprised me.
He surely doesn't need a thread on such a thing as this poxy forum mainly filled with absolute tossers to tell him that the majority of Barnsley fans would surely never want to see the man with an empty pint glass were he to venture into town? He got the Stones deal wrong, thats about it. - I've just had an important recording to make, got it all done and when I walked out I remembered I'd forgot to hit record! Sh!it happens... Keep up your tremendous support Pat lad! PLEASE!
I don't recall Patrick asking for this thread, but I can understand why some would wish to offer their support.
We all offer him support, it's called paying out of our arses to watch the dross we've endured throughout most of his stewardship. I remember chants of "we want Dennis out" in the 95-96 season. Can't recall even the slightest bit of aired vitriol aimed at Cryne, other than the mad ramblings of a few stupids on forums such as this, twitter and facebook. And whilst JD is often lambasted for nearly destroying the club etc, I bet we've more debt now than we had the day we went into administration. I respect, appreciate and trust Patrick Cryne as our owner and custodian (his words). I find anyone abusing him to be short of a few brain cells. However, as he himself will admit, his time at Oakwell has seen no progression whatsoever and it's my opinion that it's because he lacks patience or the minerals (LJ's words) to see out a plan. As soon as things go awry, he panics. And some suggest he's right to do so, and point to turnarounds in our fortunes when changing managers. But look what division we're in, look how much we've made/lost in money during his ownership, and tell me we've progressed. We haven't. That's criticism is that. But I support him, the board, the manager, the players, the club. If I didn't, and didn't give a ****, I'd not be here now posting this. I do though think some see criticism as stick/abuse. It int.
