Edited to add a picture. Can highly recommend the Standing At The Sky's Edge musical based on his songs, and set in Park Hill flat. Returning to the Crucible for a second run in January
Seen him loads of times, most recently at the Leadmill with special guest Jarvis Cocker! Fantastic live, even for a Wendy
Same argument you had the other week with people saying that they wouldn't pay xyz in flannels when you can get stuff just as good, if not better for cheaper. Each to their own innit. BTW - massive Hawley fan. But you're not gonna see him selling out arenas & getting a new generation in to music like the Monkeys did. Coles Corner & SATSE are beauties, but they're not era defining. The AMs have two albums ten years apart (First & AM) that have basically not been bettered in their genre either musically or commercially.
He's just 'opened' (a few months late!) the new WahWah Records in Wakey this afternoon. Owner Alan is a Ponty season-ticket holder - sat next to him last season. Shop was full. Fair play to Richard - he chatted to everyone, had photos taken and signed 'owt put in front of him, only breaking off for a cig now & then and the pint of Guinness that someone brought him. Deffo the nicest Wendy I know.
He used to drink in the Washington in Sheffield too - usually saw him when we went in after work. Nice bloke - played a set in the shop when Coles Corner came out, we had a load of Hendersons Relish promo bottles that had him on the front, I may have pi ched about half a dozen of them!
As for Richard Hawley, my other half is a huge fan. He’s been to see him loads of times. Once went to watch England play in Alicante and then took a train to Madrid on the offchance of getting a ticket for a gig there. I’ve ended up at around 15-20 gigs myself. Sheffield, Buxton, Peak Cavern, Dublin, Leadmill, Ramsbottom, to name a few.Got to say he does put on a good show. Next one we’re off to is Cork next week.
