When you download AVG 8 it asks you for the times you want to update its daily scan. Mine comes in at 12 noon daily.

If i am on at that time the "scheduled scan" begins and completes.

If I am not, then when I log on to the net it tells me that the connection with the server was lost. Look at your AVG settings and see when your update time is. It might just be that, which isn't as serious as it sounds.
