New Barracks Tavern - but not in any colours. It will be full of Owls. Great real ales and good food. Been there a few times when Wednesday play Barnsley. Always had a good time. Some are meeting at the Cow and Calf Grenoside but it's more of a walk.
thanks for the info don't want to travel too far from ground. Hello there Tina spoke to you on saturday outside sandwich shop i'm Yvonne's husband Alan.
Oh Hi there Tink I didn't realise it was you. Cheers. looking forward to tomorrow then? I'll look out for you both tomorrow.
Pub Advice Depending on which direction you're coming from: If you're getting a train/ tram I'd suggest drinking somewhere around Kelham Island/ Fat Cat (real ale pubs & welcoming). The closer you get to the ground, the worse the pubs get, & they do not allow away fans in. New Barrack is the closest of the decent pubs, but no away fans officially, and always packed. For Kelham Island, get off the tram at Shalesmoor - short walk. From there it's about a mile / mile & half walk to the ground, or you can get back on the tram to Leppings Lane. If you're driving, from Barnsley, Grenoside is your best bet, but it does mean driving the last 2 miles afterwards. Forget the Angel, it's a dive - The Norfolk Arms on A61 is OK, as is The Red Lion (though more expensive). 2 other pubs to go at in the village - The Working Mens Club - cheap beers, but you will probably have to sign up as a member, and The Old Harrow - nice pub that does food. We're all meeting in the Cow & Calf as it's cheap beer & the nearest to my house. We'll be getting a 66 bus down or taxis (2 miles to ground). Usually there are plenty of Reds fans inthe village ahead of this fixture, so it makes for good banter, usually without the fear of getting any bother. Cow & Calf has a nice courtyard outside for kids to run around in. Sam Smiths pub. I would seriously forget about drinking anywhere near the ground. It's just horrible on matchdays. Very unwelcoming. If you have to get parked first I'd suggest getting a beer in the ground. One other place that might be worth a try is Wadsley Bridge WMC- you can pay for parking. Not sure how strict they are with non-members getting in for a beer though
Usual form in our house Take away tomorrow night. Winner pays; loser chooses. Lets just say that if Owls win, he's having a Chicken Phal!!
RE: Pub Advice 2 mile? give over, it's a 20 minute walk tops!! (down) as for the Wadsley Bridge WMC, no chance, Dave and Marina (old family friends) don't allow guests or sign ups on the day. There is however the snooker club you could try
You'll be ok then I've gone in with Mr Owl Mindst you, they can sniff a Red out at 10 paces - Be warned
RE: Pub Advice It's bang on 2 miles from C&C to Hillsborough! I know this because I did the Barnsley to Chesterfield walk (but got on at Grenoside), and each stage was measured! As you say you can do it quickly downhill - I'd say 25-30 mins with a spurt on. Hasn't the Snooker Club closed? Used to run events there with work about 10 years ago. Possibly the rudest woman I have ever met used to run it in those days. (N)
It was a match day a few years ago. There was a bouncer on the door. A couple of friends who were Reds were inside and we were meeting up with theW. we went there because it sells real ale. I don't know anything about membership or affiliated etc
