Right, before I start, let me make it clear that I have no clue about what I'm about to type.
    BUT
My daughter has a Blackberry. She uses it for messaging.
All of a sudden there's a red "x" on the screen when she tries to send a BBM message.
    The phone is topped up.
As far as we know the system is not down.
This happens when she tries to send a message to any of her 350 "friends".
    Anybody know what to do?
Frankly I'd put the phone in the bin, but apparently it's the end of the world so I need to take it seriously.

    Cheers in advance.

My blackberry has had no service since early/mid-morning - could be a work connectivity issue though

If you can't fathom it, e-mail your brother-in-law, he uses Blackberry BBM all the time. I am clueless.

Thats the signal indicator and sometimes it does stick if the network has gone down. If you have a manage connections option you'll be able to restate it from there or try restarting the handset.
