That’s a ridiculous idea. Many clubs get themselves into a financial quagmire as it is. Can you imagine how clubs like Birmingham would carry on if they thought there was the safety net of the Premiership to bale them out when it goes pear shaped

I'm not sure if that media piece is a bit conflated. I think more money from the PL to EFL clubs should happen. Sadly the PL seem to want more and more of the cake so they can p*** it away on agents fees, players salaries and eye watering transfer amounts. And that seems to also entail making the EFL less competitive and making it more about money then breaking free from clever ad wise decision making.

Until the Football League bite, there is no deterrent to new owners having a 12-24 month tilt at a promotion push and hoping they can then avoid FFP sanctions.

Sadly. often by the time investigations occur, its all too late. A 3 year evaluation is far too lengthy, and £39m losses in that period could cripple any EFL club and force many into extinction if another insane buyer couldnt be found.

It brings me no joy in seeing clubs struggle and face going under, but for the security and future of the game, some shockwaves need to be sent through the structure. Only a club ceasing to exist could do that. If Bury and Bolton were to meet their demise, that may be enough in the short term for some soft correction to occur naturally. We shall see.

Bolton. Players taking on club and administrators. Those putting in notice to quit blocked from leaving by appeals. Now taking to an independent panel to get release. Five months no pay. And can’t get away?

From Alan Nixon this morning, looks like the EFL jumped the gun giving the go ahead for the Wycombe game.

This whole scenario just emphasises the ineptitude of the EFL, PFA and the FA. I have a very strong feeling that the issues with Bury and Bolton are the tip of the iceberg, and it is only a matter of time before other teams go the same way and something will have to done. Whilst our transfer policy and limitations on spending frustrate me at times, I would rather have a sustainable club that will be around for a long time than worry about going into admin in the near future: I just wish it was a level playing field, but hey ho.

    Totally agree.

There is also now a legal dispute between the efl and Bury.

Bury claim they have done everything asked within the timescales even provided an extra 1.5m as a buffer at the efls request and they still suspend the game whereas the new so called owners of Bolton are already taking loans from the pfa to pay football creditors. One rule for one

I agree entirely with you. Just hope there are still enough clubs around to form a professional league for us to compete in

Its crystal clear, yet again football as a whole, distances itself from real life and business.
There is a massively lack of governance and compliance from all here ....ie we will pay our bills and tax if we can afford it, after we have splashed out in players etc.
Look just relegate them both then u have a proper deterrent and get tough on clubs ffs!!

I doubt very much the smaller clubs will get the same leniency as the bigger clubs with history do... At the end of the day football clubs are private businesses and if they can't meet the rules then they should be expelled... My suggestion to the other chairmen /clubs of the league and the 3 clubs who went down last season would be now to be pressing for compensation from Bolton for loss of revenue due to cheating on their part... Plus whereby Bolton failed to complete fixture list Brentford I think should also be suing the backside of them for loss of revenue too... In Burys case they shouldn't have been allowed their promotion fined docked 12 points and told to remain in the same division failing assurances both clubs should have / would have been removed from the football league...
The system is corrupt from top to bottom..Football Mafia run..

Fully agree. In a world where clubs legitimately winning promotion are denied it because their grounds don't meet certain criteria we also have clubs who break the rules and swindle contractors out of their dues being allowed to move up.
Bury should have been denied their promotion some time back and the next club in line offered it.

Shocking that after 5 months of not getting paid they can walk away.
Players Union should hang their head in shame

Totally agree about Bury, odd how they managed to survive until promoted and once confirmed declared.
    Smacks of deliberation to me.

Apparently, Bolton only have three senior players with any EFL experience for their first game in
League One away to Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow.

Absolutely no sympathy for them. Took far too many risks and have been totally irresponsible as
far as their finances have been concerned.

Irrespective of who takes them over, a 12 point deduction will be hard to claw back. A long hard season
appears to be in prospect. Successive relegations could well prove to be a realistic outcome.

Can they play players who come for free just for game time? I.e out of contract player who still wants to keep in the game at a higher level so plays for free hoping to get a deal elsewhere? Non-contracted so free to move?

Seems Burys 2nd game against Stanley has been cancelled too. Nice to have the games in hand if they make it through i suppose. But i cant see it unfortunately.

As a fan of each club, you’d be grateful you are being given a chance.

    To others, it’s farcical.

I would think that would be permissible DT. Personally can't think there would be any
merits in putting yourself in the shop window playing in a patchwork bottom of the league
team though. Probably be better to go on trial with a view to a contract at a well established
    and reputable EFL outfit.
