Makes sense. I think he would struggle in the championship right now. Another season in league one with a side most would say are pretty much guaranteed to finish top 6 should suit him
If he is willing to drop back to L1 again I would love us to bring him back. Doubt we would be able to offer a big enough fee though. He also should not be back in L1 really, good enough for a chance in Championship

If he's going to end up in league one I would like to think we would at least try and bring him back.
We might have had a chance at bringing him back on loan, but if other clubs are interested in signing him permanently then that sadly rules us out.
I'd be surprised if he drops down to league 1 again, given the interest in him from numerous Championship clubs in the middle of last season. If anything, John only kicked on after that interest too.
