....f*cking off in a fortnight to the US of A for a fortnight! Just hired the car, sorted the airport parking, dollars came this morning. BRING IT ON!!!! I'll send you a postcard!
We be heading for WV to meet the mrs distant family. Staying in the pan handle on the Ohio River. ESTA's all sorted just need the driving permit thingy.
Not sure about this and its 2 years since i last looked but I dont think you need the driving permit. But dont take that as gospel.
Never been to the USA but its somewhere I do want to go to. Such a vast country, so many different climates and cultures. Crossing route 66 is top of my list.
I've been lucky enough to be sent to Savannah and Madison in the last 4 years for work. How much did I see? **** all, except for hotel rooms so I do wanna go back at some point if I can convince the wife. I did get a brief view of the statue of liberty as we flew back into Newark but she was way in the distance and heat and humidity in Savannah is nothing like I have felt before. Madison all I wanted to do was stay in my hotel, -8 during the day and -16 at night. So my total stay of 12 days included 8 flights and 2 hotels and nothing else
have a great time matey its somewhere that's never really appealed to me . But I wish you a good time.
You don't need a driving permit (unless it's specific to WV). I've rented cars there with old paper licence before, I finally got around to getting my photo licence a couple of years back, they do ask to see the paper counterpart but first time I forgot it and they checked passport instead. We are flying to Philadelphia in a couple of weeks, spend 5 days down there and then drive up to New England, got a ticket to Boston Red Sox baseball, staying in NH to visit step daughter. Then week later we fly down to NC to stay with friends for a week.
I remember reading my guide to the USA, on the plane. It said that without your green counterpart licence (which I had not brought) to go with your pink photocard, you would NOT be able to get your hire car. I told the family, who slit their wrists. Nobody needed the green licence. I have been to the USA the last 4 years and still nowt other than the pink licence has been needed. Hope this helps
The outlaws sorted them, I believe through Tesco of all places. I read that some US insurance companies insist on the permit in the event of a claim (not that I'm planning on claiming).
Just checking - it's an international driving permit which is translated into 10 languages. I think they only insist on it from non-English speaking countries. There was something in the news last year about Florida were going to insist on it but backed down.
Well, you've inspired me and we're now planning on going to Florida for 9 days. The last time I went I was 9, and hubby hasn't been at all. I'm so blooming excited!!! Disney tickets are ridiculous though!
Jamdrop, Go somewhere else not Florida. Fly Manchester to Washington DC spend a few days in the city, (DC is a fantstic city to explore) head out to the eastern shore, Ocean city,Rehobeth or Dewey Beech for a few days then back towards DC or up to Philly for another flight home to Manchester.
