Brian has made it clear he didn't want a contract and wanted to move on. He's been bad mouthing the manager to anyone who'll listen to him for a while now and how he was trying to get him the sack. He would have people believe that Davey had lost the dressing room but that's not what the other first teamers are saying. That's not what I saw on the pitch today. I like Brian both as a person and as a player but he's let himself and the fans down in the last few weeks. He's certainly done well for our club in the time he's been here and I won't forget that but I'm not sure what any manager could do in the circumstances. Irreconcilable Differences. No player is bigger than the club - time to move him on.
Yes I'll brief you later. We've come up with a plan. Anything that isn't a positive comment we delete from now on. That ok? Seriously though I'm not sure he's been particularly professional if some of the stories I've heard are correct. Is it just a coincidence that we played our best 45 minutes of football today without his influence. We'll see in the next few weeks I suppose. Looks like the elephant isn't in that room anymore!
Wolves offered 2,000,000 English pounds pure madness looks like we're gonna get the best part of fook all for him now.
Off course.... If Brian is on loan until January and were to have a change of manager before then who's to say they wouldn't recall him...? (If it's done on a similar basis to our Nyatanga deal with Derby).
RE: Wolves offered 2,000,000 English pounds Isn't that up to our owner though ultimately? If he doesn't want him to leave that should be his choice? Howard should be professional enough to see his contract through.
Agree but why hang on to an unhappy player that has upset the start to our season and wait till the transfer window is closed to do a deal.
end of the day if someone offers 2m again in jan we can pull the plug on sheff utd then **** him off to the highest bidder
RE: Yes I know - Howards not been playing for the team this season and its looking like we should have either offered him an improved contract or cashed in - we did look better without him today thats for sure
Bad Apple in the dressing room For all his goals last season, no player is bigger than the club and he's been next to useless this term. The team will be better off without him, that was the best midfield performance of the season today. Coincidence?
RE: end of the day I would have thought that that is the name of the game now. Remember Buzacky at Plymouth, who was worth similar to Howard, but went to QPR for about £250,000 in the January transfer window when he was worth a whole lot more. If Howard has refused any Reds contract offer and is adamant that he wants away, the club may be taking the most sensible and realstic course open to them. If Monday's announcement makes it clear that he is available for transfer, you would expect that to start a bidding war, which is our best hope of getting any sort of reasonable fee for him. You would expect that Sheffield United would be joined by interest from other clubs, including some from the Premiership. After all, a left-sided midfielder who can score goals is something of a rarity and you would think that clubs near the drop zone of the premiership would be interested. Sunderland expresses an interest, as well as Everton. Did Wigan? If we get a bidding war, we might just get a million for Dangerous Brian, which would be peanuts for a premiership club. If this is the case, you can also understand why Howard should not be captain, as he is not likely to be here for the season. I just wonder if this was all precipitated by Davey suggesting a different role for Brian - given a free role in front of Colace and De Silva, but behind the front two (or one). Leon seemed to play this role more today. Just wonder if that brought it to a head, or if the contract talks cannot move anywhere.
