A friend went to PC World and they were trying to get her to spend £120. Am I wrong in saying she could just get the Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz thingy I've got? She's got the same laptop.

they often try to make you buy things which are "faster" but the fact that they are a lot faster than they need to be as maximum bandwith of the connection is the top speed you need.

I would say yes cant see a problem and i would also say never trust what the monkeys in pc world tell you

    One thing

Is she on cable or ADSL?
If she's on cable the one you've got is fine and dandy.
If she's on ADSL she'll need one with an ADSL modem built in.

I would recommend sticking with Linksys or Netgear either way.

Last question - does the laptop have a WiFi built in? Older ones don't but most modern ones will. If not, she will need a wireless card or USB dongle for the laptop. You can often pick up bundled deals of Router+Adaptor cheaper than buying separate.

    It's best...

... to use fake fur in these circumstances. The Ackworth mafia will only take umbrage.
Oh, and a blue one. Nice.

    Ah yes. It's ADSL.

I'll have a look at em. Definitely has WiFi.

    Cheers pal.

I always go for the blue ones.

Except those toilet things that women always put at the front. They sting.

    Personally

Not impressed with Lynksys - bought a router for the office needed to replace it after 2 months (Warranty but still) also bought an additional wireless access point Lynksys and that failed warranty replacement then failed again.

It may be we are just unlucky.

Never had a problem with my Netgear at home though
