Me and my girlfriend went into London for the afternoon/evening yesterday to have a look at the poppy display at Tower Bridge, then get some food whilst in a pub with the footy on then go to a comedy club. Everything was lovely, until we were about to leave the pub and she realised she didn't have her phone on her, which she definitely had in that pub. When we thought back 2 blokes came and sat on the table next to us, read the menu, then left seemingly in a bit of a rush as one of them brushed past out table on the way out. It then clicked that it must have been them that took it, one of them kept catching my girlfriends eye, no doubt he was the guardsman of the operation, whilst the other went in rifled through her coat pocket. We didn't bother with the comedy club after that as we obviously didn't feel like it.

Not a pleasant feeling knowing someone has sat next to you and nicked something off you without you having a clue that it happened. Ruined what was meant to be a nice day out for us.

Once got pick pocketed on a train due to leave Barcelona rail station. He had a clip board in his hand and I thought he was to do with the train.
You are stood in the aisle, waiting to get your case up on the luggage rack, and until the train sets off you cannot move with passengers getting on and off. He pushed up against me and I thought at the time there was no need for it. He had then took my wallet, they take the cash out and get off the train and dump your wallet in the bin on the station. You are beat because the train sets off and he has scarpered. Really professional and a big problem in Barcelona. It learns you a lesson, because anyone who think they cannot get pick pocketed are in wonderland as they are real good at it.

Probably pros who will have done it before.

If you are going to report it do it now before the pub CCTV gets wiped.

May not show incident but would ID known suspects entering/leaving.

You need to watch programmes on tv about pickpockets, it opens your eyes but you know what to look out for. I am always wary of anyone with a coat draped over their arm. This is the "shield" that they use to shield themselves when dipping your bag or pocket. They worked in threes on crowded trains, two position you and the third dips your bag. Dropping coins another trick used to distract the victim. East Europeans are the experts.

I got pickpocketed once, years ago, they took my wallet, cards the lot. I've never carried a wallet since, just stuff cash into my pockets and hardly ever take cards out with me. I'm sure I've lost the odd note while getting cash out but I'll never use a wallet again.

Yeah I mainly just put money loose into my pockets. I'm always very cautious though after someone tried (unsuccessfully) to pickpocket my mam in Spain. I always keep my hand on my phone pocket in my jeans, especially if I'm somewhere crowded or suspect like Barnsley Market for instance. I basically never take a bag anywhere except when I go out at night and then it's always a clutch bag that I never put down.

If its a modern phone, you can track it ( if its on that is) or just scramble it. No good to anybody then.

Really sorry you had that happen to you. It's a big problem in many cities hope it was just the phone and your gf isn't too shaken by the whole experience.
My Sister lives in London and has had her habdbag snatched twice and the same happened to the Mrs in Amsterdam so it can happen to any of us and it's really unpleasant.
i had a phone nicked once as well and you finish up blaming yourself for allowing it to happen. It's just wrong as that's completely the wrong thing to be upset by it's the criminals that are entirely to blame.

I'm sure the thieves are highly skilled in what they do, but I can't believe they could extract anything from my jeans pockets without me noticing (famous last words!). As you say, I never take a bag or anything with me, and my phone etc is always stuffed well inside my pockets.

The best tactic is to avoid places like London altogether. Horrible place, can't fathom why anyone would want to go there. Hides behind sofa.....

Barnsley is no better these days...

...my daughters partner lives off Harborough Hill and has had the wipers stolen off his car whilst parked outside twice in the last few months (at £45 a pop). Worst part is he gave up a well paid job several months ago to train as a teacher and so household money is a bit tight as he has had to top up his student loan for the university fees and is unwaged. Also inconvenient to say the least when he comes down to go into school and it is p*ssing it down and he has no wipers.

    TW*TS!!

Somebody tried taking my phone out of my pocket last year - I could feel it being pulled up so I grabbed his hand.

Sorry mate - thought it was my pocket! Yeah right!!!
