I have a few questions and would appreciate it if anyone could help me.

    1. Is Windows 7 worth upgrading to? I'm on XP Home SP3 on an 11-month old laptop. I have an Intel 2 Dual Core processor (T5800/2 x 2GHz) and 2GB of Ram.

    2. Can I upgrade/change my on board graphics chip set without changing the whole motherboard, etc because my current one is **** (SiS 3 Mirage) and doesn't run FM properly.

    3. My computer also sometimes just switches off. I think this could be overheating because it's clean of viruses, etc. Might the fan need replacing after 18 hours/day usage this year?

    Thanks!

My mate, the computer geek says...

    1) I'm running 64bit Win 7. It seems... okay. Nothing to rave about. Still probably not as good as XP but a bit better than Vista. Let's hope Google bring out a decent OS so we can all forget Windows once and for all. Linux will never take off wholesale because it isn't marketed enough and the less said about Apple's offerings the better. I think in Google, there is a company that will do the unthinkable and topple MS.

    2) Can't you just put in a graphics card and ditch the onboard graphics? Don't know owt about laptops though.

    3) Could be overheating. Are the vents all fuzzed up? Could be a dodgy PSU (I've just had that). Could be software. Does it instantly switch off (hardware?) or does it fart around a bit first (software/memory?). Again, know nowt about laptops.

Luckily for you, it sounds like you're surrounded by computer nerds over there.

The problem is that the SiS 3 Mirage causes an instant crash and BSOD when loading the game (ie. the fm.exe file) so I never get as far as the 2D/3D match engine.

    :(
