Sigma do good lenses, i've got the same camera with a 50-500mm sigma lens bought it on line too, from Bristol cameras,be sure to order your lens for cannon fittings.

You will need a fast lens for sport. f4 or below i would say. Although some of the other lenses will work ok they may hunt for focus. Really its down to the old old thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, how much brass you want to spend. You would normally see a difference between Canon Glass and Sigma/Tamron etc just go for the best you can afford. I've had many (Sony/Minolta) off ebay with no problem and some at very very good prices.
