I'm sure most people have heard this story by now.

I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian but I absolutely despise hunting for "sport" or pleasure. It's absolutely pointless inhumane behaviour which achieves absolutely nothing. Shooting birds or animals whether it's a duck, rabbit, lion or rhinoceros is not manly or heroic and doesn't make anyone into so e kind of hero. If people want to prove how tough they are and want to enjoy the thrill of the hunt or the kill I'd suggest a bare knuckle boxing match with a grizzly bear. I'd respect any man who could take a bear down in hand to hand combat.

    Anyone agree or disagree?

I find it despicable that such a Magnificent Beast was killed by this idiot.
Apparently he is a dentist and if left to me I'd pull all his teeth out one by one with a pair of pliers!

Agree entirely. Blokes a complete lovely person.

Anyone who feels the need to kill anything for "game" or "sport" is slightly wrong in the head. Think there have been actual scientific studies that prove a propensity to hurt animals for pleasure is often a sign of illnesses such of psychopathy.

You will always get humans that think differently. To him shooting a Lion is normal. That's why you need laws to ensure they don't act in ways such as this bloke who killed the lion. He genuinely doesn't think it is wrong. Only by making things illegal do people understand what they are doing is wrong. It won't eradicate it. Some people will just knowingly break the law. But it will be a smaller percentage.

The blokes life, reputation and business are likely to be ruined by what he did. I for one am glad of this. And hope it makes others think twice.

It's really sickening to see these people in photographs next to the magnificent creatures they have killed with an inane grin on their faces.

The only consideration in this scumbag's mind was the question of legality. He apologised for doing something which he allegedly discovered was illegal after the act which shows how far off his moral compass is. No one is outraged over the legality of what he has done, they are just appalled by the act itself. A fact which has completely passed him by.

Exactly the point I was going to make. I was disgusted when I first heard the story and then when I heard his pathetic excuse I was even more disgusted. He actually thinks it would have been ok had it been a legal hunt. I despise these people, the kind who think money can buy them the right to behave in this disgusting way. I hope he is charged along with the land owner and the hunt guide and I hope they all get a long time inside to consider things. I also hope that this yank dentist is made to realise just how disgusting he is when he returns home to the USA.

These sentiments apply to all people who fly off to Africa in pursuit of this kind of activity, whether it be big cats, Rhinos, Zebras or any other kind of animal.

Totally agree, and add to your list foxes chased by a marauding pack of hounds (not their fault) egged on by a troop of hoorah Henries.

Totally agree with all the points above and I am really pleased to see the amount of backlash this dentist and others are getting. A lot of rich people head to Africa and Asia where their money enables them to do things they wouldn't get away with back home. It doesn't take long searching round the internet to see plenty of rumours as to why a very well known Hollywood action star enjoys his time in Asia.

America and it's love of guns is vile at the best of times, but these photos of them posing with endangered dead animals they have slaughtered is downright disgusting. What did they think the reaction would be if people saw these photos. Were they expecting congratulations for outwitting the animal with their firearms? I hope this dentist's life is ruined by his actions. But hopefully there can be some tighter laws in the countries where this kind of thing goes on.

I'm being thick, but the only Hollywood martial artists I can think of are Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damn andChuck Norris. Is it someone else?

Agree 100% Whilst I do not agree with Vegetarians or Vegans I respect their moral stance. Hunting for fun though is abhorrent!!

Personally, I enjoy eating meat game fish and poultry but am always concerned the animal lived and died and try to fnd out the provenance (one of the good parts of living in rural Italy most meat (even in supermarkets) is locally sourced).

I don't subscribe to the 'Meat is Murder' activists as a) many animals would never have lived if animal husbandry did not exist and b) Beef and particularly sheep are still the only effective way of producing protein from cellulose -grass etc, which is indigestible to humans.

As long as an animal is treated with respect and dispatched humanely without suffering (although I have reservations regarding industrial scale abbatoirs) and we don't throw away or waste any of the animal (which I find disrespectful) I don't have a problem. We evolved as omnivores anyway.

I'm not talking about people that go fishing - cos fish haven't the feelings that mammals do.

And I'm not talking about people that kill animals for food - cos humans have evolved to be meat eaters.

But anyone who kills animals for fun - then there's something seriously wrong with them - they take their miserable frustrations in life out on our wildlife.
I know this because I also used to do this when I was a mixed up teenager and into my early 20s - so I have been around these weak backboned foookers that do this sort of thing.

Typical Example is this - I went to a farm yesterday and this big guy about 6'4" showed me around all these farm buildings that were full of all sorts of equipment - he was absolutely awash with money - including loads of shooting stuff such as feeders etc. He had even converted one of the buildings into a sort of shooting lodge with a bar, snooker table and settees with trophies of stuffed birds hung on the wall.

He shook my hand when I left..........he had an handshakes as firm as a wet lettuce.

My understanding of sport fishing (river/lake or sea) though is that you either eat what you catch or throw it back to fight another day. Hardly the same as wounding a Lion with a crossbow then, sometime later killing it with a rifle, skinning a beheading it for a trophy in the name of Sport. That said, not sure about Young Nudger's argument about fish not suffering like mammals.
Talking of mammals don't start me off on whaling which in the 21st century is unnecessary and equally abhorrent IMO.
