Bloody heck, almost everything from Khaled digs him deeper in my opinion. He says it's up to the CEO to be answerable... but Conway was acting CEO for months. He's also cultivated a media presence for himself by being very visible in the past 5 years, still doing podcasts and interviews etc whilst refusing to engage with fan groups. Chien Lee was interviewed in France just a week ago. He (Khaled) can't really say much else I guess but it's worrying he tones things in a way someone in his position should know will infuriate fans.
To be fair, actions speak louder than any words. I don’t give a monkeys if we never hear from the owners if they just made some positive actions for a change.
There’s really nothing wrong with what he says in this interview. The clamour to hear from owners in football is a strange one IF your CEO is visible and putting himself in front of the fans and media. The issue here, and what is fairly unique to us, is that the questions that need answering are from when one of the owners WAS the CEO. If Khaled was willing to answer them in great detail, on behalf of Paul Conway, then it might be different. But where we stand now we don’t get answers because it was before his time, and because Paul Conway won’t speak to supporters.
Very good question. I think Nancy’s position is a lot more extreme than ours if you’re looking at it as a neutral. They were in free fall already with lots of problems, but not long ago they were in Ligue 1 so it’s a steep fall from grace and maybe seen as more severe? That drop out of Ligue 2 is like a drop in to non-league so pretty awful for the club/supporters. I think Gauthier combines the CEO role there with Oostende as well so maybe that drove it? Or maybe they just don’t care enough, trust Khaled to deal with it, or have us way down the list of priorities? Likely a combination of everything above. But I’m just guessing.
Can I just say if we were in the same position as Man Citeh, I wouldn't mind if the owners never spoke to us again as long as they kept ploughing money into the club and community like the Citeh owners do. Sadly our owners do the opposite so I'd like them to explain why.
I'm not even sure fans specifically want to speak to the owners. what I think they actually want is answers to some very important questions. the owners have only got involved because the CEO has been unable to articulate those answers. if he had answered them fully on behalf of the owners, his point would be far more valid. if the owners refuse any interaction, then for me I'm afraid the CEO is just gonna have to become the brunt of that. the other thing is, we all know that if we do well next season, or any season for that matter, Conway will be all over the media.
We should also consider that Conway has already given precedent of speaking to the media and to fans, sometimes formal, sometimes not. It's not like we're asking for something which has never happened before. Though perhaps being summoned because things are going so badly is what sticks in his craw.
Why do you people want to make arguments. This site is for everyone's point of view about Barnsley fc. We are all unhappy about this season we all know we have got crap owners we have got a crap head coach we have a crappish ceo and 75% of the team are crap so why make arguments. We should all be sticking together and getting rid of the crap
He isn’t comparing us to Man City though. He’s just referenced them because he worked within that group/company. Same way he’s referenced Red Bull because it’s known we’ve shown an interest there in their model and structure. It’s true that hearing direct from the owners isn’t something that happens regularly in football. Long list of clubs in the same position, so on that point he’s not insulting supporters he is being factual correct. We just don’t like the answer right now.
What a stupid comment for him to say. If the owners were fit and proper we wouldn't need to hear from Conman and the rest of the charlatans.
