I support Davey I think this year Barnsley have been very unlucky to be involved in a relegation battle. There is no shadow of a doubt that the playing staff is head and shoulders better than anything we have had for a long time. Signings The addition of Collace to the midfield and Bogdanovic up front has been a fantastic step forward. The lack of return from Hulme thanks to long term injury has been a bitter pill to swallow this year. Moore in defence has done a job and has given us options in defence we lacked last term. We still need a goal scorer and some goals from midfield. Signing the loanees would be a good thing but may not happen. Tactics I am a traditionalist and like to see 442 but you cannot say SD does not experiment. He likes to try to get the best out of available players by playing formations to fit players. I am not going to knock his tactics because at times, in my view, they have been brilliant and at other times appalling. The 11000 or so regular tacticians in the stands would all use better tactics every time we lose but probably not when we win. Performance At times this year performances have been under par. It’s hard to blame the manager when the players under perform. The League Do not underestimate this league. We all want to get promotion to the premier but the reality is that in this league there are some massive clubs with massive resources. We are a small fish in this sea. We have to be inventive bringing in other nationalities and lower league players and hoping they will perform. We cannot afford to spend multi-millions on top championship or premiership players. We cannot attract them anyway because we are too small. Key Lost Players Losing Howard and Hulme at the start of the season was nearly a fatal blow to the clubs continued existence in this league. The lack of penalty taker has cost us dearly. The lack of midfield goals has also been a problem. In Anderson and Collace we have a fantastic mid field pairing but they need the strikers to convert the chances they make. Anderson for the right striker will lay on at least 2 chances per game. The Future Probably now in a minority I am happy to continue with SD and look forward to see what additions he can bring to the club in the summer. As we already have a £million plus striker ready to return that is a good start. Next Season I believe the team we have is capable of mid table next year. With a good start we could even challenge for the play-offs. It will be interesting to see how SD reacts with a winning side. You have got to be optimistic it’s a new season.
