I have to say that if we don't match Blackpool's offer for Adam and make a serious bid to sign him then i just can't understand Davey at all. For me we are crying out for a goal threat and touch of creativity from centre midfield, which is just what Charlie Adam could provide. Then Anderson could get back to his best position as a holding midfielder with Colace as back up.
If we allow a club with half a ground and 60% of our support outbid us for a quality player we could potentially have signed, we deserve to be in a relegation battle next season.

    I agree

He clearly wants the player - or seems to.

£500k in this day and age for someone with his experience is not a lot. Hey we paid more than that for Mostto and Odejayi.

    RE: I agree

Problem is, I think Blackpool want him more. I can't help thinking that Davey only wanted him as a replacement for Anderson if he was going to Bristol. now it looks as if he's staying Davey's interest in Adam seems to have cooled.
There have been some gems picked up from Scotland by Championship clubs and I honestly think Adam is another.
We should match or better Blackpool's offer without delay and get him signed. As you rightly say, when you look at the sums of money wasted on perceived foreign "talent" it beggars belief if we cannot come up with 500/600k to sign a quality experienced player like this.
I'm not holding my breath though.....

If we're serious about competing at this level we have to go for both. Left wing and centre midfield are areas that both need strengthening. In any case, I reckon the bid for Hammill is a smokescreen to appease the fans. Hammill is this seasons Kevin Phillips. We could realistically get him on a seasons long loan but permanently I very much doubt.
If Liverpool decide to sell him there will be more attractive suitors than us I'm afraid.

So, where were all these 'attractive' suitors for Paul Anderson then?

Gone to Forest for a mere £250,000 and he's an helluva player.

If they didn't want to keep him, who, for me, is everybit as good as Hammill, then surely they won't want to keep Hammill, and we could pick him up for somewhere around the same price as Forest did Anderson.

Its Charlie Adam thats turning into this seasons Kevin Phillips

..................all the eggs in one basket

Reading this message board makes you think that if we dont get Adam the season is knackerd before we begin
If we dont get Adam then we dont get him.............but we need a few alternative targets

Its the fact that we're going to lose out to the mighty Blackpool that pisses most off. 500k is a very good price for the kind of quality midfield player that we lack.
I'm sorry but it beggars belief.

    It works both ways...........

..........we get players that clubs with bigger crowds are after...........Hume for one

and players will go to clubs that get smaller crowds than us, when that player knows we are after them

It's all about how the club is "sold" to a player...

yes wages come into it, but are Blackpool paying out more than us? Are they busting the budget to get this one player?

Has SD actually spoken to him yet?

The way that I look at it is

the price seemed very reasonable for a player of the quality we need,if he's not that quality we should'nt be bidding and if he is then its obvious that other clubs would be sniffing around. Now if other clubs are likely to be sniffing around pissing around with silly bids is not in our best interest because lets face it on recent seasons form we have not got a lot going for us to attract them, plus we have a manager who is seen to have survived by the skin of his teeth and who is not liked (putting it mildly) by a large percentage of the fans mainly for playing players out of position and dubious defensive tactics.SO So for me our best chance would seem to get in early and get em nailed.

Totally Agree Mick. Adam would finally be the Howard replacement that we R screaming out for

I don't want us locked in a bidding war but if we don't even offer Rangers asking price then we deserve all we get. Someone commented yesterday that it seemed strange and totally out of character for SD to be openly naming targets - is he just trying to appease the fans by being seen to be doing something and realises that he has no chance of getting Adam or Hammill?

Since he mentioned the Adam move, everyone and their mother in the CCC has been linked! If we are seriously in for Hammill I hope it doesn't alert other teams by openly admitting we have an offer on the table.

The trialists, on a more positive note I feel are worth the gamble....

Preece - experienced keeper for back-up on a free = no brainer.

The young lad from city - see Matt Mills, Gary Fleming, Gerry Taggart, Ashley Ward for city youngsters that they have let slip the net.

Morgan - very much in the Paul Hayes mould of striker/winger young and and on a free - why not.

Add John Beresford to that list.
