In an ironic way... hot dogs are the ethical solution because they are made from mechanically reclaimed meat and therefore fully in line with the waste-not-want-not ideal. By jove, they're virtually vegetarian!
It's a good sign, that they're flying off the shelves Hopefully, once the suppliers up their production of free range chickens (maybe by more intensively farming them... oh hang on) the sales of battery chickens will nose dive. That's if people don't have short memories.
I'm sure mis-labelling does happen There was the recent scandal when the supermarkets introduced locally produced milk and promised to give a markup to the dairy farmers... and then didn't. If they're found out to be mis-labelling, I hope they throw the book at them. The trouble is, sometimes the labels mis-inform without stepping outside the rulebook.
Me too The problem is that the vast majority of eggs we consume are in other products (with eggs in their ingredients) and I bet those aren't free range. There needs to be a big step change in the rules governing what producers are required to put on their packaging.

RE: Waitrose eh? On my job searches I saw a job ad for an Aldi regional manager. You get 4 shops to look after and an Audi A4. It's in my 'pending' tray ...
